I currently own Layered Sounds 2 and love the ambient disc and was wondering about Jimmy Van M's Balance 10 disc 1. I know disc one is supposed to be ambient-downtempo.
Judging by the diverse artists on JVM's disc 1 I know they won't sound similar, but is Layered Sounds disc 1 and JVM's Balance disc 1 comparable in terms of quality of programming and track selection? I know I will like at least some of the songs, I own the Anoushka Shankar cd, which is beautiful in its own right, but does JVM's disc 1 have the deep, soothing feeling of Layered Sounds 2' disc 1 or is it a "different kind" of downtempo?
While on the subject, are discs 2 and 3 worthwhile enough to make JVM's Balance 10 a worthy pickup, most online reviews say yes. |

Jimmy's comes off more like transitions between moments rather than a typical mix. It will dwell on a sound for a couple tracks with a theme in mind, then move onto a different idea, usually bridged with ambient interludes. |

| I think 010 is well worth the purchase. With each listen I discover new elements, twists, and turns. It took me a while to get my head around them all but they are now on my heavy rotation list. |
