OK, so here's the deal:

About 2 years ago, I was out playing every weekend, sometimes twice a week (There's a lot going on in LA LOL) I hurt my back real bad, had to sell my gear and all my vinyl and whatnot to pay for medical bills. Finally after my long hiatus, I have finally saed the money to buy a couple of cdj-800's and I'm looking for a mixer that I can grow into. I play a lot of progresive and dabble in either trance or house towards the end of the night depending on how the crowd responds to what I'm playing.

I have about $400, I was considering the DJM-400 ( I can work a deal with guitar center for a whole package w/ the cdj's) is there nay other mixer that I might want to consider? I had a A&H Xone:464 so I realize that nothing is going to compare to that, but I need something that will work for home use while I get bakc in the swing and revive some of the contacts that I had.

Thanks!

i recommend just saving more and going with the djm800 or the xone92/3d i know they're expensive but you wont have that feeling a year from now when you outgrow your mixer that you should have just gone with the gold from the beginning. in my head it saves more money to be honest but in the end it comes down to your choice. another option i highly recommend in the lower price range is the vestax VMC-004. its cheap enough that if you decided you're going to get back into the scene you can just go for a higher end mixer straight off the bat and if you don't want to get back in the long run, then its not a terrible investment. hope it works out :)

^ What did you pay for your 800? I might get one but of course I don't want to pay the $1549 msrp.

i actually paid the 1500 :( you can get it for as low as 1300 i think at some places but i paid the full msrp in order to finance it. you gotta do what you gotta do!

for $400-500, look at:

Pio DJM-400

ECLER NUO2/3

Vestax 185/004

A&H XONE:32

Those are all higher quality mixers that should last you a long time

So I ended up buying the DJM-400 and 2 CDJ800MK2's - I spent about 2 hours playing at guitar center and decided that I would be happy with them for at least long enough to start getting some paying gigs.

I got them all for $1659 - the sales rep was quite literally growling at me when I got him to a price they could live with. For anyone interested, I used Abes of Main for a price match with guitar center. They had the mixer for $469 and the cdjs for $539 - and they're an authorised dealer. It was a little more at Guitar center, becuase I wanted them now, not in 10 business days, and I got a $150 gift card for christmas for guitar center becuase my family knew I was going to be making this purchanse. So if you're not in a hurry, you can get them at $1547. GC was so low that they had to give me a credit for nothing and then apply the credit before charging me. If you are persistent, they'll give you the same deal :)
