now i write most of my melodies with my piano and then come up w/ sounds later. i haven't noticed a different work flow |
Yeah it's definately a case of what works best for you personally. I'm not completely abandoning the idea of writing the melody first but I do think a new sound can be inspiring. |

I dont think moving on from producing a style you love is some sort of progression in production its just you're probably bored because you're not a true tranceaddict :P |

Yes, because good producers never try anything new. That would be, like, hard, 'n. |

I'll be in a ditch smoking crack all day with the money I've made from producing a novelty one-hit-wonder track. Think Crazy Frog, only even more annoying. |

no harm in trying something new its always good to diversify.
although i think he means band wagon jumpers. the producers who follow the next craze or popular genre. |

I've read and heard to write your melody before you choose your synthesizer timbre. Maybe this works for some people but I find that whatever sound I use influences the melody I write, so it's much more important for me to create an original and interesting sound. Last night I was looking to write a tune from the virus with a supersawish sound, but it was just so hard to come up with anything original and what I did come up with was DJ Sammy Style. As soon as I loaded a weird pad type patch I got a flow of new ideas.
So it was this that made me think I'm really gonna experiment more. |
you took away my words bro!
I never made a sound for a melody as far as I rhink....maybe in some odd cases where I got the sound in my head and I recreate it.
I always play a sound and then make a melody for it...
I couldn't really take away a melody out an old track and remake the song with new sounds cause once the melody was made it usually had a sound and I couldn't ever find something else suitable....
I could go on about my way of work for a few but I don't wan't to talk non sense... hope I haven't already... |

in 10 years time, there will be millions of little mozarts who have been infront of a sequencer since the age of 5 composing and are going to blow away the scene. |

I'm thinking more along the lines of millions of LORDS OF BASS. |
