Yeah I know I'm asking a lot of questions lately...
What is the best way to add an effect (delay or chopper) to just a certain part of a vocal?
Do you just cut that part and paste it on a separate track and add an effect to that track? Or do you automate the effect plug-in for those parts of the vocal?

| putting it on a separate track saves time. why automate when you don't have to :D |

| i used to use seperate tracks, but automating is so easy in cubase takes like 2 seconds its faster. |

| I usually end up using a bunch of vocal tracks and routing them all to a group track that has all the processing on it. If it's just a short delay you need in one part of the vocal, I'd try to just edit it in yourself on a separate track. |

Such channels that I know I'm going to add changes like that I just put all the commen FX on a group and route all the tracks to that group... |

| What I usually do is stick the delay on a return track, then just automate the send whenever I need it to delay. This is the method I always use when I need to do delay just a single vocal clip, or throw a just one clap from a track into a reverb with a 10s tail. |

Good question. I've done it both ways actually, using a seperate track, and automation. It's much easier to use a seperate track, but for some reason I always end up automating it, because there's less clutter that way. I usually already have 20+ tracks up. It is easier to just use seperate tracks though. With Automation, you have to get it just right to make the vocal delay like you want, can be tedius.
I'm about to be faced with this dilemma, because I'll be working with some original vocals soon. So it's good for me to be thinking about this. |

I don't know what sequencers you guys use, but Cubase has "folder tracks" that you can throw tracks into and then minimize the view. I use tons of these in all my sessions and it helps a lot because you can have X number of any track and minimize it down to the size of just one track. Keeps everything organized. |

That sounds nifty. I use FL studio, I doubt it has that feature. One thing I just started using on FL studio, is the audio clip feature. You can put samples down under the playlist, and chop them up as you wish. That way, you don't get a lot of clutter in the step sequencer. All the audio clips are stored in a seperate area, all together. |

Speaking of vocals, what can you use to create your own vocals....no, I'm not talking about speaking/singing into a microphone....
A friend of mine had something on his computer where he typed words into a program and a robot-sounding voice said them. What program was that? |

check this out, sounds really good :) Too bad it's for non-commercial use only, but with alot of effectsprocessing no one can tell the difference ;)
