using loops,

| i was just a little curous as to how often you guys use loops to open a song up, in my past productions ive never really messed with loops but lately ive been getting into using them for the intro into the song for about the first 20 sec. to a min. and then bringing in my main percussion how normal is it? i know its my decision but i was just curious. thanks. |

| I feel free to use a loop as long as it's only something to spice my own creation up...if it adds something than it's ok...but I usually glitch/chop/effect them to death! :D |

^well like my samples.
^^like chop them up how? what kind of other effects are you using on them, ive actually just started to use loops not through the whole song though, they add that something to the song. |

I'll use them sparingly, just to enhance a drum program mainly. Even then, I'll EQ the hell out of them, and possibly use a filter on it to take out pieces of it. The thing about loops is that using them for primary drum sounds ends up being limited in the long run because you don't have individual control over each drum and that screws you when you want to change a pattern, or EQ it or add effects or do any type of changing whatsoever.
One trick I like to do is in Reason, take a Dr. REX loop and use it as a CV driver to rythmically control the parameters of other instruments or effects units. So you never really hear the loop itself, but it is used to control, say, the Freq of the filter or the decay of the reverb. You can get some tweaked out sounds if you do this with like 4 Subtractors and a ton of effects units in a Combi. Try wiring it through the CV Splitter and have once CV going to a filter freq cutoff and the Inverse CV going to Reverb Decay. |

what would you think? it's obvious...either I chop them...do some glitching...or put a ton of FX on them...
glitching = cutting into small pieces of audio (very small like 1/256th notes or smaller) and processing each piece differently |

| if i got a loop that i like, i usually throw it into FL Studio's Fruity Slicer then go from there. most of the time, i try to rearrange the loop then i apply effects to it to get something new and different. In the end, it is all about experimenting unless you are going for a certain sound you really want. |

loops are great, chop them up or mess'em up , you can get some good . |
