So reading the sickie topics at the top helped but i still don't know what I'm looking for, know why? Well, I know that I want to "MAKE" my own trance, not "MIX" or "DJ" but I'd like to have the hardware and software needed to one day do all those things. I'd like to start making /creating my own unique trance music first. I just need a list of hardware, top of the line, and that will last me forever, not any of this little beginner kit package stuff. I'm in need of some guidance, a mentor if you will who could instruct me on how to get started.

I'm extremely serious about getting started on this. I'm eager to learn but just kinda having some trouble understanding some of the tutorials because i am truly a noob. I've played in bands and stuff but never paid attention to the sound guys, it just wasn't my part. Now, i need to learn about all those things that im sure i already know about and just cant put a name to the equipment that made the effect etc. Please help. I'm looking for a mentor who has created trance music for a long time, whether you are good or not, im sure you know what it takes to be good since you've been doing it for a long time. Thanks for any guidance.

don't be an idiot and get a beginner kit first...

that way...you loose less money when you realize that it isn't for you...

you never know...one day you're being serious about this...the other day it can be astronomics...

get something like Reason and learn it inside out...you can produce pretty good tracks with it...even Airbase started on Reason...so what's the matter ;)
tonytovar
Reason... Is that a product program or something?

ah, drum machine software.

No it's not.

Propellerhead software! wow, that is neat! So why go software and not just getting all the hardware equipment and doing it like that? I mean, Reason is like just all computerized.... maybe if i knew what the disadvantages where of hardware versus software.

you want to spend some money to get some good production and DJ equipment?

buy this:

Steinberg Cubase SX3
Access Virus TI Polar
ReFX Vanguard VST
Allen & Heath Xone 3D
Pioneer CDJ-1000mk3 (x2)
Focusrite Saffire LE
M-Audio Oxygen keyboard
Technics RPDH-1200 cans
JBL LSR4328P

the one thing that you will need the most that you cant buy however is SKILL, EXPERIENCE and KNOWLEDGE. all of this comes with time. research, practice, try, create. production and especially dj'ing are one of those things that you learn lessons as you go along. buy some tutorial dvd's to production and then buy some tutorial dvd's to cubase, then buy some tutorial DVD's to DJ'ing. when you feel like you arent learning anything by watching or reading go out and try making something...put together a synth patch, try some sidechaining, do some automatation, whatever, just practice and keep trying things and you will learn as you go along.
