| It doesn't help matters when the "DJ" moniker is used for many producers' song credits. |

i definitely dont think people should stop focusing on dj'ing. i would rather see a dj that is known for their mixing ability than their production ability. anyone can show up to a party and play new tunes that nobody has heard before, regardless if they made the music themselves or not. But when a good dj can play the music well and get everyone dancing, I think thats what its all about.
Then again, there are some amazing producers who are amazing dj's...like ferry corsten. wow. And there are amazing dj's who are terrible producers, like AVB. and crappy dj's who make good tunes like Benny Benassi (this guy couldn't mix a glass of iced tea). Which is probably the reason i have to bring up a thread like this. the guy is a world class producer, but sucks on the decks (or maybe he just had a really bad night, but oh man) I just think people like this should let the dj's buy and play his music, because he certainly cant do it himself. |

mate it take alot more skill to produce a quality tune that a dj can use to get people dancing than it does to use other peoples tunes to get a club going |

| Yeah, I've had to explain to many an individual that most of the songs on techno CD's are NOT made by the DJ on the album. Seriously, there's gotta be thousands of idiots out there who think Tiesto personally composed every song on his ISOS and Nyana, and I think this is one of the reasons why many popular DJ's get more credit than they deserve. |

I woulnd't have an idea what producers are listed that are not dj's, could you give some examples?
no no. there arent any listed that aren't dj's, there are just dj's listed because of their production skill who arent very skilled dj's.

this isnt my point here. a writer can make an excellent book and not be able to act it out in a movie. the dj and producer are skilled in different areas. more skill, less skill... does the carpenter have more skill who can build the house, or is it the architect who designed it? you are comparing two different things. were you one of the people who voted for sander van doorn as one of the top dj's around here? |

yes they are different things but those are stupid examples. a builder just builds exactly what an architect designs.......a dj plays tunes that other people made and they arent following any "designs" or watever the your metaphor meant, which in the end anybody can do.
ofcourse not everybody can play as good a track selection or mix live aswell as eddie halliwell or whoever but they can still claim to be a dj and most people could still do a respectable job for the right crowd. to produce a great track takes so much more skill, they are working from scratch and creating a sound, not just playing it........
my metaphor is that a builder (producer) would make a house (track) but the real estate agent (dj) might have to sell it (play it at a club), the builder (or builders) put so much more work into it and would have required alot of training and hard work, compared to the builder the real estate agent has done hardly nothing.
in the end dj's are similiar to this, they are just getting credit for other people's hard work by playing they're great (or ) tracks that they put all their effort into creating |

i remember there was a discussion on the dj mag poll one year here on ta. it was about who you voted for/will vote for. one guy said he's definitely gonna vote for leama & moor because they've rocked so much. some other dude pointed out that they don't even dj together. the guy voting for them said it doesn't matter, because to him they're the best djs because they produced such great tracks.
my first reaction was: :wtf: :nervous: :conf:  :clown:    :o
then just: :stongue: :stongue: :stongue: |

| i dont know one famous dj that hasnt at least done 1 remix. Personally i think at at least some point in time throughout a djs career, that they should pursue producing. |

If anything, I think it should be the other way around. A producer should eventually think about getting out there to promote his own productions and not let other DJs get the recognition for them. |
