Do they really need to eat like kings, though? I mean, isn't being able to take most everything we need for granted what created many of our problems in the first place? |
I didn't mean literally "eat like kings" but just that there is enough food for them to do so if enough people donated. Almost 1/2 the US is overweight, if everyone took the extra food they eat that makes them overweight and sent it overseas to a place like Africa rather than eating it, children like those could be fed a few times over. If rich people donated some money and maybe bought a normal car rather than a $100,000+ car these kids could eat as well. Not saying that rich people should be the only ones donating either, they just have the most resources to help others and therefore should definetly be the ones involved. |

Of course there is enough food to feed them, but is getting everything they need donated to them really what's best for them?
I've been to Africa several times including working for a charitable organization there, and I really don't think that giving things out like that works. It only encourages them to grow more dependent on foreign resources, while their populations continue to grow and their ability to sustain themselves does not improve. We provide food and medicine that greatly decreases the mortality rate - especially the infant mortality rate, but this causes the population to grow out of proportion to the infrastructure that exists to support it. The end result is that it only exacerbates their inability to be self-sustaining.
What I find amusing, is that despite the supposedly "miserable" circumstances in which these people live, they are generally more well-adjusted and have more positive attitudes on a day-to-day basis than people in western countries. I think that is something we should consider carefully before we try to make their circumstances more like ours. |

i been thinkin about this.
i think its about time our ty race ended. i mean all we seem to do is work, and .
now i love ing and ting- both are so rewarding. but most of my time consists of working my arse off to pay for myself to live + keep a load of freeloaders off the streets.
when i have a day off from work i think of what i can do with my day, but wherever i go i see a load of mindless ants crowding the streets buying ing christmas gifts and generally being degenerate.
now, my question is this...
what are we here for? to bring lots more pointless lives into the world? with a load of poor kids who will be brought up even worse than we were? and what can they look forward to?
is there anything to look forward to in the next few years? because i think the world has just been getting worse since the 80's.
another thing. why worry about polar bears becoming extinct? i can almost be sure than not one person here has seen a wild polar bear. so if they become extinct then what will be our loss? all ill do is make sure i have a wildlife program recorded onto dvd so i can pop it on whenever im missing the big ol' white beasts.
this world sucks cheese! |
I have stopped thinking about it. I had many questions like this and I've stopped asking until people started calling me psychic. I did read some books from osho and it helped me answer a few of my questions.
Quote from him:
Man has lost one quality, the quality of zestfulness. And without zest, what is life? Just waiting for death? It can't be anything else. Only with zest do you live; otherwise you vegetate.
To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it.
There is no evil and there are no evil forces in the world. There are only people of awareness, and there are people who are fast asleep -- and sleep has no force. The whole energy is in the hands of the awakened people. And one awakened person can awaken the whole world. One lighted candle can make millions of candles lighted without losing it's light. |
