Fascinating video about the psychological phenomenon of "impact bias."

Interesting... thought most of what he said I already knew intuitively. Good to know I have data on my side now when I try to convince people.

I think so. I don't mean intuition as some kind of psychic power. I just mean common sense understanding of a concept even if you don't have data to support it, or can't even formalise it in scientific terms.

People knew and took advantage of gravity before they could explain it. Machines took advantage of the laws of motion before they were ever formalised.

In relation to the information in the video I've always prepared for worrying events by imagining myself a few months or even a year after the event and realising that the negative emotional consequences would be short-lived. I've dealt with things that way since I was a child.

Another thing I've always believed is that emotions are something you choose to feel rather than being something uncontrollable that happens to you as most people seem to treat them. I have never had sufficient knowledge of psychology or neurology nor any research data to back those beliefs up so I call them "intuitive".
