Herman Brood, actually. Well-known Dutch singer and all-around artist and junkie. The guy used so much drugs in his life I believe his ashes are enough to let the complete attendance of Dance Valley 2007 have a ing field day.
The track was remixed since a film about his life has just been released here in Holland. Why they chose Armin van Buuren to do it is beyond me. Cringeworthy. |

Last year he was much better. All his productions this year sound too similar, same ideas, same sounds, etc. But opinions are opinions.. |

You're about one year late, all the hype around Gangsterz took place in 2005 when it was still doing the rounds on dubplate, as per usual in the grime and dubstep scene.
I like Gangsterz, although I agree that it has gotten a lot more hype than it deserves. It still is one hell of a clever and instantly recognizeable tune, with a sample that glues itself to people's heads for days. There haven't been many grime tunes around in 2006 that manage to do this as well thus far IMHO (one exception would be Virgo - Clack Riddim).
edit: oh, and the most overrated grime tune of 2006 is blatantly Skepta - Duppy. Skepta & Wiley's bars on that tune are just weak, and don't get me started on that horrible hook by MC Creed.
My vote definitely goes to Bobby Peru - Erotic Discourse. It's just a basic DJ tool that people for some incomprehensible reason choose to do a standard 2 minute crossfade mix with every single time. I've yet to hear a single DJ apart from Mason(!) use this track in a remotely correct context. |
