In no particular order
Quake - introduced great network coding for realistic and intense multiplayer
Quake III - first FPS made specifically for competitive online gaming and done flawlessly
Half Life - Amazing game but more amazing MOD community(CS/TFC)
Half Life 2 - Amazing game, amazing graphics engine(CSS/TF2)
Warcraft III - The best online experience with a RTS
Ultima Online - First real graphical MMORPG and with a community centered theme
Everquest - First time a MUD became graphical, every game after Everquest has just been variations of Everquest
Final Fantasy VII - Best Console RPG of the last 11 years
Mario 64 - Revolutionized graphics and game play when it came out
Some noteworthy games for me: Diablo 2, Neverwinter Knights, Knights of the Old Republic, FFX, SSX, Twisted Metal 2, Guild Wars, Dark Ages of Camelot. |

I can't believe I forgot about Ultima Online, it deffinately deserves an honourable mention at the very least on my list.
You play a lot of FPS it looks like, did you ever play Action Quake 2? It's the best FPS ever made, too bad people don't play it because of the dated graphics.
Technically Ultima was the first MMORPG and graphical MUD, Everquest came out after it. |

EQ used the traditional MUD leveling and grinding but UO did not, so in my mind EQ was the first real totally graphical MUD based system. Yah I played action quake 2, throwing knives were awesome. =) I didn't particularly care for Quake 2 though, I buy games based on multiplayer experiences most of the time and it just wasn't all the way there for me.
I'm really looking forward to the new competitive game being developed by CPL called Severity. It is being made and tested by competitive players for competitive players so I'm extremely excited. |

Quake 2 I wasn't too big a fan of either, but Action Quake 2 represents the perfect multiplayer FPS to me. Bleeding, bandaging, leg-damage, straffe-jumps, in... KICK! They NEED to start putting a KICK into these games again, nothing like launching a dude 5000 feet across a level to fall to his death with a well-timed boot to the ass! |
