Mtv needs to bring back this classic show. This is what brought me into the scene. If anyone doesn't know, Amp was the first and only EDM music video show in the states. It aired for 6 years until its cancellation in 2001. I still remember watching Digweed do a special NYE 2 K set for them. Good times...

Classic vids from a classic show

In a way there is a small debt to MTV for bringing out EDM at one point onto the screens of USA and kind of giving the EDM that second rebirth because it was going into the dark age period in the states.

Years ago, I didnt want to go personally, but my friends I remeber dragged me to a live Oakie concert filmed by MTV at the Rockefeller Center.

mtv died along time ago
and mtv2 is on its way out also
its now all reality shows that have nothing to do with music lol
but yea i dont think the edm scene in the states here is that big for them to broadcast videos and stuff
which i think would be cool to have a show about dance and stuff but i dont see it happening anytime soon :(

I dunno why, in Europe TMF (the music factory) is a music video station owned by MTV (i'm pretty sure) that sponsors trance energy and like that, and they play loads of EDM. It's not like they don't have any experience with it... dunno why they never tried. Seriously, cuz whatever they play, people this is cool, and then people would think EDM is cool, and they could throw big events here, and make more money!! They're not very good capitalists if you ask me.

They make a load as its these days since MTV is Global. Sadly though, MTV is too main stream in the States.

Why develope something new and risky, when they already have their mainstream moneymaking hiphop/rock/pop?
Unless there are some influential/rich producers out there making a plan on how to make EDM a mainstream moneymaker, MTV won't give a damm.

Also,
Hiphop/pop/rock songs are short. They usually last anywhere between 4-6 minutes including a "build up, breakdown and chorus", and is somewhat easy and understandable on the ears of the majority of people.
While there are some EDM tracks that last just as long, but usually to get people in the right mood to enjoy it fully you need to play alot of them back to back without interuptions. Thats why there are SETs.
MTV needs to break to commercials, which will ruin the whole effect.

Either they should come up with a seperate MTV branch network concentrating mainly on EDM. Or more EDM producers should remix mainstream songs into dance remixes, with catchy tunes, beats and just overall easy on an avarage Joe's ears. Those are the only ways I see EDM ever becoming big in the US of A.

And to say that there's no potential here wouldn't be right.
Almost 90% of everybody I know that goes to hiphop clubs instead of trance clubs, say that they do so because of the girls. But when they want to just have a good night out with friends and enjoy some good music they go to trance clubs.

So we'll just have to wait and see...

you make good points as well, but as far as length, they have radio edits of all the big trance songs in europe i'm sure

also, mainstream america will think anything that's on MTV is cool... think man, camron wore pink, and the next thing you know every homeboy on the block is ing decked out in pink. people will do whatever mtv says is cool, and if mtv said trance was cool, every kid in town will too
TRNG
true all mtv has to do is play for an angel twice every hour like they used to play out all their old and every1 and their mother would be wearing pvd shirts in a week, this country is a slave to the tv
