Hell yeah! Serato released a beta of their own FREE Mp3 download site yesterday. www.WhiteLabel.net. All the music is FREE for download, and it's already Serato Ready! Which means it has overviews built, bpm's added, etc. The interface is easy to use. At the moment, they only have hip hop but they're working on adding more genres. What makes this site great is that when you download the song, it will play in lo-quality mono on regular Mp3 Players such as iTunes, but it will play on HiQuality when you play it in Serato! That is awesome!
www.WhiteLabel.net is the site!

What file format does Whitelabel.net use?
Whitelabel.net uses a custom file format: Whitelabel MP3s (file extension .wl.mp3). These files will play as a low quality preview in any MP3 player, and a high quality version within Serato Scratch LIVE. The Whitelabel.net format files are specially prepared for use in Scratch LIVE - they have had their overviews built, they are tagged with song and artist info, BPM, and album art where possible. The file will be the equivelent in quality to a 320KB MP3 when played in Scratch LIVE. |

I don't quite see the point in this, the idea isn't bad, since it would be nice to get exclusive tracks just for DJ use, but if somebody wants one of these tracks as a regular MP3 then they will be able to get it, all you need is one serato owner to do a basic audio recording of when the track is playing threw serato, or if this site and idea got big enough, then maybe somebody could create a converter for the files or MP3 software that could play it in hi-fi.
I know that if I got a track from there, I would most likely somehow convert it to regular mp3 so I can listen to it whenever, I wouldn't share it, but I'm sure there are plenty of serato users out there that would.
Best of luck to them, if this does work the way they plan, it would be nice to get exclusive music, but I can see people getting around this and then ruining the idea. |
