Damn, not that the yankees had much of a chance.

A lefty with power....deadly

I haven't really been paying attention to the rest of MLB transactions this offseason minus the Red Sox...Have the mets made any big moves?

BTW, Zito doesn't have power. He is actually known for not having power. His fast ball is somewhere in the High 80's to low 90's. Its his nasty 12-6 curveball that he is known for.

Mets got moises alou and damien easley. check out this site to keep up to date

How do you feel about the red sox moves????

well yeah I always knew about Zito's curve but I thought he used to hit 93-94 on the radar? Moises Alou still is one of the best dead on fast ball hitters in the league. I've seen him turn on 100 mph darts and put them into the seats. I've always liked him. Easley still playing 2nd these days? I think the sox still need to get a closer (the last time I checked) but I did like the fact that they got Matsuzaka, as well as Donnelly and Romero. I think it's better now that Beckett will be the 3rd starter. I think the best deal the sox made this offseason is NOT trading Manny. As much as hes a pain in the ass, you can't replace his bat in the lineup...no way..I think the signing of Drew (depending on his physical) will make manny even better by protecting him. Drew is perfect for that 5 hole and adds another left handed bat to the lineup. The only concern now is closer as Papelbon is gonna be the 4th or 5th starter. I think we've done well overall

personally, i am a yankees fan, and the moves the sox made so far this offseason are a little concerning. You're right about Manny, not getting rid of him was the best decision (without manny no one would ever pitch to Ortiz), but as for transactions, I think the biggest move for you guys wasn't matsuzaka, but donnelly. Don't underestimate the importance of a shut down guy in the bullpen. I think he has only given up runs to the yankess in one inning out of 18 (or something like that). Who knows about Drew, he's always injured. He's a solid player, but definately overrated. His only real good year was in 2004 with atlanta. He barely reaches 100 games played in most of his seasons. Romero is also a wildcard, he had a terrible year last year with the injuries and pitching. I think this year is going to be the most competitive in the AL East. The Sox look better than they have in years, and the yankees are finally getting it that you can't trade away your future. Don't forget about the Jays, they got Thomas and kept wells.

I hope Drew does pan out. He did bat in 100 rbis in 06 but of course he did miss alot of games. I think it would still be an improvement over trot nixon who was always injured it seems. Can we just get a healthy right fielder please lol. Like I said if he is healthy he can be a good protector of Manny in the lineup. I can recall Donnelly being a thorn in the Sox's batters side as well...he was also very good during the world series I believe a few years ago for the Angels. I agree the Jays are a big threat again this year. Vernon Wells has abused Boston pitchers the past couple of years.

I wanted Zito, but for 7 years, plus an option for an 8th, I'm glad they didn't get him.

Basically... bye-bye Milledge + Heilman + someone else for a starting pitcher.

making a trade for dontrelle would be the .

i truly believe in omar. so far, he's made all the right moves...and has been, on the whole, fiscally responsible...even beltran and pedro's contracts have been agreeable.

7 yrs for a starting pitching is hard to swallow. money is one thing...and i'm glad omar didn't pull the trigger with making an obscene deal with boras for zito.

I wish mets could get dontrell but Freddy Garcia is more realistic

... who was already traded to the phillies

Im so glad the mets didnt go that route. I really got a bad feeling for this guy when I heard his attitude. Totally acted like his didnt stink and had no humility whatsoever (lockeroom killer). Those are the types of players that I would do without. Look at the Patriots and now the Jets formula. Big egos out ..... Roleplayers in. Also his agent is Scott Boras, one of the biggest egos and asses in the Mlb.
