I can just see the headline news RIAA disappears from the face of the world, nobody knows where they went. |

The CIA World Factbook places the 2005 GDP of Russia at $740.7 billion. The RIAA thinks that they are owed the entire economic output of Russia for the next 16 months. I think their random number generator broke this time. |
actually come to think of it now, it makes perfect sense. In order to stop the alleged culprits, they would need to control the entire Russian government and legal system, hence their bid for a multi-trillion dollar lawsuit.. to effectively buyout the country

The one thing this article fails to mention is that the US government is leveraging Russia's pending acceptance into the WTO to pressure them to take action against AllofMP3.
They've said that if Russia doesn't put a clamp on digital piracy, their WTO acceptance won't happen.
So these guys are basically screwed. The RIAA will never get any money out of them, but this site will most likely be completely shut down in the near future. |

| Maybe they are hoping to settle out of court for about 1% of the lawsuit. :haha: |

the funniest part about this is not the amount(entirely arbitrary in any case and designed precisely to bring public exposure to the issue rather than actually reflect true losses) but that RIAA files in... wait for it... US court.
ha ha!
last time i checked Russia was not a part of the US. US law DOES NOT APPLY there.
i suppose they've succeeded in at least bringing a bit more attention to what really is a very bad precedent regarding russian copyright, but the humour can't be ignored. |
