| As I said earlier - The two days after Christmas I went Wii shopping and couldn't find a single one. In two days I could have bought 18 PS3's - Most gaming stores had several in stock. |

| Or this graph could be indicating that Sony is doing damn good at shipping them and getting them out there. |

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're joking.
No reasonably intelligent person could actually say that with a straight face. |

If I remember correctly, there was only one shipment between black friday and week of christmas to the US. As said, this is only average auction price on ebay even though the trend analysis is similar since it's a buying/selling community. I wouldn't think we can accurately conclude the Rise/Fall of the PS3, however I do know that between the dates indicated, the only factors that would skew the avg auction price is consumer knowledge (knowing the price will level out) and more shipments, the latter which was not evident in say a 1M+ shipment into the US so consumer buying knowledge has increased significantly since the 360 and Tickle Me Elmo Days.
I think people learned from both instances (360 and T.M.E) which further prohibited the excessive sales of the PS3 on ebay.
I'm just happy I sold mine for 2,300, almost the pinnacle of the grey market analysis above....go me!
and I think I'm buying myself a ps3 soon but shhhhhhhhhhh i'm not telling any of you when i get it, last thing i need is a party at my place...f that! |

Perhaps I'm missing something...if the grey market is dropping, doesnt that mean the company is doing a swell job at satisfying demand from the retail perspective? What am I missing here? |

The grey market isn't dropping because the company is doing well. Sony is still having a horrible time of manufacturing PS3s. But I guess you're right in saying the company is satisfying demand from the retail perspective, but that's easy to do when there's no demand to satisfy ;)
On the other hand, Wii are still selling for twice it's retail price, and there are numerous PS3 owners (albeit a small percentage of them) that are trying to trade their PS3 for a Wii straight-up (that's a 500 dollar LOSS), or for a Wii and some cash to cover the loss.
Either way, it shows that the marketplace is losing it's desire to get a PS3 for at least the time being. It's hard to say exactly what it means in the longterm, but it's going to be harder and harder for Sony to make the PS3 a success if the current trend continues. Developers want to make games for the most popular consoles. Loyalty is one thing, but money is the bottom line, and if Sony can't push the system, game-makers will take their business to the better-selling consoles. Give it another month or two and all the Sony haters can start dancing in the streets :stongue: |
