Ableton Live Digidesign Edition

i consider buying pro tools, and there's an "Ableton Live Digidesign Edition" in the software bundle.

so 3 questions:

- has anyone ever worked with this edition of live, maybe even rewired with pro tools?
- what are the limitations - same as in ableton live lite?
- are the limitations seriously affecting the workflow or the performance?

if this version sucks or merely is a demo version, im gonna buy live 6 full with edu discount...

any infos are appreciated, thanks! :)

well if you "want" to buy pro tools...you might consider upgrading to Live full from your "edition" ... it might be cheaper than buying the full with edu discount...not sure...you might want to check into it.

can't tell you much more...I never worked with an "edition" version (even when I have like 4 of them lol)...I have full :)

yeah good idea, but i already checked it out and the full edu version is cheaper, since there is no edu discount for updating from lite versions... they even recommend it this way on their homepage (buying the edu full rather than updating lite).

im probably gonna buy pro tools and then see how useful the digidesign edition is. i can still buy the edu full afterwards if its crap :)

Seen lite but not used it. I think your limited to max of 8 tracks and can't save but I could be wrong.

For the Lite versions, you have all the functions of the full version (plug-ins, features, and saving sessions) but are limited to 4 tracks and scenes. Pretty crappy for most users, but others may only need a couple tracks.

i bought ableton live edu edition for half of the retail price. the daw is too good and too cheap not to own. shouldn 't be a tough decision

pro tools arrived today, and the digidesign edition of live is probably the same as the lite version. restricted to 4 audio tracks, no surprise.

BUT: what i didnt expect and what i think is much more annoying: you can't import mp3s into the lite versions... :whip: :whip: even if you update your version 4 to version 6 it doesn't work. what a pity :( so im gonna buy the full edu version soon

Live converts .mp3 files to .wav's anyway... so it might be better to just convert to .wav first, and then import that.
