You know, it would actually be a good idea:
- Land is probably quite cheap there. Given the fact that Djibouti is slightly smaller than Massachusetts, Microsoft could probably afford it.
- They wouldn't have problems with the American legal system because they would be in Eastern Africa.
- It's closer to Europe than Seattle.
- It's farther from Nou than Seattle :p
- All internet domains end with ".dj" - needless to say, they could profit from it in the music industry.
- There's oil in surrounding areas to profit from.
- If Microsoft manages to improve the local economy, more people will be able to buy computers. If more people buy computers, the more Microsoft can improve the local economy and profit.
- The use of khat is widespread, to the extent that Djibouti has been called the world's first futuristic "narco-state," a la Brave New World. [1]. Sounds like fun for a bunch of people from the West Coast.
- Given the chance, Google would probably buy Mongolia and install a Mongooglean regime. It would be better for Microsoft not to settle in Asia.
- No one knows Djibouti anyway.
There are other smaller countries to pick, but they're either too far from civilisation or too expensive to be bought. |
