Greetings from the other side of the world, where it is already 2007!
Here are pics of the New Years party that took place at Womb, where Nic Fanciulli was the headliner.

Great space, great sound, great visuals (especially with the lasers used for the countdown clock, and the spherical projection screens used to show scenes from the past year's parties)
Got a little crowded, but the vibe right after midnight was great.
I felt a little weird that most of the locals (i.e. not foreigners) seemed to be high school kids.
Nic Fanciulli started right at midnight. Since the people with me had to leave early, I didn't catch too much of his set, but while I was there, he sure was rocking it.
Also, in the Roppongi area of Tokyo, Gas Panic is the place to go to get stupid wasted to the tune of cheesy music, with fellow foreigners. :p
Prior to coming to Tokyo, I made a brief stop in Seoul, where I checked out M2 (where PVD and other big DJ's have played when in town), Woo Bar (a really cool place for lounging, and rated one of the world's best bars - too bad I missed Andy Moor playing there on Friday, when I had to leave for Japan), and Circle. Too bad that Joker Red, where I believe Victor Dinaire played his legendary Live in Korea set, was closed when I was in the area, probably since it was a Wednesday night.
Hopefully there will be something good in Taipei this coming weekend. It's unfortunate that Ministry of Sound there is not very accessible by public transportation. John Askew was the headliner there for this New Years. |

Thanks Kelly!
Yeah, Tokyo sure is fun! Figuring out the subway and rail system, and finding your way around Tokyo can be quite an adventure, for starters. :p
Anyhow, I hope you do have a chance to go some time. |

Velfarre is actually closing down, after 12 years. In the Roppongi subway station, there are posters about it all over.
We missed Yellow because it was late when we got to Roppongi, and the club seemed to be a bit far from the station, and we weren't sure how to get there. We settled for Daddy Foley's (Tokyo's first Irish pub) and Gas Panic instead. :p |

Pics from Woo Bar and Circle, in Seoul
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v...006/Seoul_Club/
Too bad I didn't get any shots of the spherical DJ booth at Woo Bar which was cool - similar to the one (for who happen to know) at Happy Valley in NYC, but on ground level.
Circle has a bunch of tables that revolve around the circular bar.
Also, in Taipei, I didn't make it out to Luxy or MOS, but I briefly went to Plush, where hip-hop was being played on that night, but is a nice space, with a cage :p. I also went to K9 (in the same building as Plush), which has the biggest private karaoke rooms I've ever seen, and The Bed (one of two such named places in Taipei) - their version of BED, but no beds at the one I went to. Cool lounge though.
Carnegie's seems there to be their version of Coyote Ugly, where people dance on the bar and things can get rowdy. |

Too bad I didn't hear about these places either before or while I was in Tokyo. I'll definitely have to keep them in mind for next time I'm there, whenever that may be. |

Womb ... oh boy I'm jealous now!
Too bad 2F is closed in Taipei :(
Luxys lineup looks confusing online
and what's wrong with not having public transporation to Mos? If you're on a budget don't worry cabs are cheap in TW then again ... if it's really out of the way that could be a problem ( I remember ridiculously long trips to get across town etc :eyes: )
enjoy your mini Asia tour :) |
