I believe astrology has merit and is more than chance and I am male
Though this does not completely encapsulate all of my feelings towards the subject, as I would not necessarily refer to myself as a 'believer' or a 'subscriber' to any sort of scientific or religious doctrine, I am hesitant to immediately dismiss something so deeply inherent to human civilization. Humans are flawed creatures, yes - we've been looking for "the truth" for sooo, so long, and the conclusions anyone has actually come to seem to be of approved scientific merit or of a self-fulfilling prophecy. Astrology is a pretty wide term that has branches in the formation of almost every subculture of the human experience - as a social signifier, it is deeply rooted in how we view relationships, the stars, animals, and many other archetypes that we take for granted. In that respect, the significance of astrology cannot be denied. The validity of its factually-based claims however, can be easily debated, as it is just another form of faith - though its seemingly pagan roots get a bad rap from the indoctrinated catholic aspect of our world, as it has been stigmatized by the establishment as a pseudo-science and just another form of witchcraft. The occult is such a funny concept though - it's exclusion and very status as 'occult' is only a relativity to popular opinion, but I digress. I guess my point is that human beings tend to look for 'truth' and end up finding what they look for - this seems to be a theme amongst any sort of scholarly religious formation. There is no doubt in my mind that humans haven't even begun to realize the significance of our place in the universe and in this dimension of reality, so it would be seems quite wrong to me to believe or disbelieve any observational religion that has lasted as long as astrology and has so profoundly influenced the formation of our civilization and archetypes. Not saying I'm not skeptical though... |
