Has Have any of you ever taken this test?

I'm thinking of taking either the Certificate in Advanced English or the Certificate of Proficiency in English (I'm downloading some sample papers in order to decide which one I'm going to take), and I was wondering if any of you have taken this test in the past.

If so, what was it like?

At the school I work at we teach Cambridge (FCE and CAE) prep classes, I just teach general English, so I am of no help to you.

From what I've noticed you must have at least an Intermediate to Upper-Intermediate level to qualify for the prep class. I really suggest that you take a prep class, because the test isn't cheap and you will learn a lot. I do think you will do fine, as I have seen some of your posts and the grammar and vocab is fine in them.

Cambridge is a fair exam, much better than the bloody TOEIC. It is a test looking for specific things (like any test; example- formal writing), so paying attention to instructions is important. I will ask the teachers that teach CAE and FCE what the test is like and I can take a look at some if you like. I am still teaching General English, so I am sorry again I cannot be of more help to you.

Any specific info you would like to know?

But seriously, I'm surprised you pointed that out. I'd always thought the verb would agree with any and not with you.

Thanks :p

Yeah, I'm thinking of taking these preparatory classes, but the test is extremely expensive, and the classes aren't cheap either. That's why I'm asking about it: I'm seriously thinking of devouring all the grammar books I've got and try my luck. That's why I'm a bit insecure.

I've just taken a mock test and it didn't seem difficult (I scored 90%). I can listen to university lectures and understand what's being said as if it were in my native language, and I actually prefer to study Philosophy, Linguistics and Psychology with books written in English. But, as CleverName pointed out, I often feel my English is far from "perfect" (so I wonder whether I'm just a perfectionist and/or whether I really need to study harder :p)

- How different is the CAE from the CPE? (both in difficulty and importance given by employers in general).
- Is there a list of words/expression/grammar/utterances necessary for each exam?
