All I know is that CableVision has a promotion to upgrade your cable speeds very high. (too bad your connection sux) |

| well, we ordered it before christmas and they still havent been out here to hook us up yet. Well, they came once but sent the wrong guy so now we are waiting for the right guy to come out and we should be hooked up by the end of the week. |

| Ask Tom (EnigmaT), I think he had that at one point. It isnt available in my area yet but I want it. Maybe when/and if I switch back to Verizon. Im currently with RR cuz I used to get disconnects every time it rained with verizon. |

Yea I thought so too. We used to call and call and call and they could never find the problem. They sent 3 tech's to my apartment and checked the lines outside etc. Other people in the building didnt have any problem at all with verizon it was just us. The wiring in the house was checked and it was good or so they say. All they could so is stay "were working on it" and give us small credits on our bills for the times it was down. After a year we were able to pinpoint the disconnects to the weather and told them but they still said they couldnt find a problem so we switched to Road Runner and havent had a problem since.
Everyone in my household is a PC gamer so when there is no internet at home it causes all kind of hell to break loose. Only reason I would be willing to switch back to them is because of the fios and in that case the apartment would have to be rewired anyway which may eliminate the disconnect problem. |

Here's my little review on it:
Few weeks ago, my parents switched from Cablevision to Verizon. We got the whole deal. We've been with Cablevision for so long, they just wanted to try something different for a change. I was against it because it's just going to be a hassle to remove the wires running through the walls and install a new service, but now it ain't so bad.
We had the IO Digital Cable Service, Optimum Voice, and of course Optimum Online. The speeds were recently upgraded on Optimum Online (OO) and I thought nothing could've been better. Now that I got Verizon Fios, the download/upload speeds seem to be a few tabs faster than OO. I've gotten no problems with this so far. Their online service runs through the Wireless router. The router is a bit bigger, but no cable modem obviously. You can even upgrade your speed later on should you choose to do so. Like 20/10 or something like that. The default is 10/2 mbps (10mbps Download/2mbps Upload) which is the same as OO. But this seems a bit faster as I mentioned.
We're paying almost the same as when we were with Cablevision it seems. Honestly, if you have Cablevision, I'd just stick with that. Verizon's Customer service is horrid though. They say they would call you back to figure out a problem you have instead of putting you on hold, and they don't. This happened when there was an issue with the Video Feed information uploading. It took us almost a whole week to get everything set up in our home. Having 3 different technicians coming to finalize the installation of the Cable boxes in the house. The Fios for the online serivce took this guy almost the whole day to set up. He went out to get some coffee only to come back over an hour later
The last thing I do want to mention is that when I called Cablevision for my parents to disconnect the service, the Cablevision Rep on the phone was asking me the reason for terminating the service. I then told him that my parents were switching to Verizon. He was letting me know immediately that the rates for Verizon will increase later in the year, something that Verizon wouldn't mention. How much of that is true, I don't know. He also said that he could match the monthly billing price we were getting from Verizon. But with a little push with my voice saying no to his statements, he gave up. They had no problem terminating the service.
The email system for Optimum Online was said to disconnect in 4 weeks as a grace period. Mine terminated in about 2-3 days. So basically, if you have the Optonline Email Server going through Outlook Express, you can still receive email from that server, but can no longer send outgoing mail. So now, changing emails and letting everyone know that you have a new email is a bit of a hassle as well.
I think I summed up everything. If anyone has questions, you can ask me since I've been through this transition and seen the pros and cons of Cablevision Vs. Verizon.
This service is still unavailable in most areas. My neighboring towns dont even have it yet. Kinda strange. But by the looks of it, it seems Verizon doesn't have the full understanding of how this all works, imo. They should've just stuck with the phone service. Internet + TV is something new to them, and it looks like they have n00bs working on these things and dont have a clue what to do. |

I agree with and confirm your comments regarding the horrible customer service at Verizon. Yes, they always offer a lower introductory rate but then they hike it up after a year or so. They did this to me before but one day I got a really nice rep and she told me your contact was up a few months ago. If I cancel it and renew it instantly I can give you the introductory rate again since technically its a "new account" since you renewed. So we got a lower rate for an additional year but it still wadnt worth it with all the disconnects.
They're second level support techs dont know . I questioned them thoroughly about the problem and they were trying to use fancy words and over complicated explanations for a problem they knew nothing about. When I ended the call with...BTW I work for the IT department of a corporation and you have NO IDEA WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT! the guy on the phone was so speechless he hung up on me. HAHA |
