thought there was already a thread on this, maybe that was on a different board, I dunno.

I narrowed it down to 4 shows that, to me, each epitomized some aspect of things in this scene. I didn't make it to any life-defining events like I'm sure Daft Punk @ Coachella would have been, so here goes:

John Digweed @ M-bar, Houston: Best Music
Lee Burridge @ LoveLee, Mezzanine, SF: Best crowd reading/funnest party
Hernan Cattaneo @ Clarks & Deans, Houston: best pleasant surprise
Sasha @ Ruby Skye, SF: Most personally meaningful (also a close tie for best music)

Digweed is, no question, musically my favorite DJ, and I was lucky enough to see him twice this year. I thought his show in Houston, sandwiched in between his WMC shows (literally, he was in Miami both the day before and the day after) was really just incredible musically, and beat his Austin show (which was great too). I have zero complaints about those shows, and I could easily just stop here.

Lee Burridge....that man knows how to throw a party. Technically and musically superb, no question, and the music he played was utterly sick and twisted and amazing. But what really got me was how he stood there in front of the crowd and got this look on his face like "you think this is good, wait until you hear the next thing I'm gonna kick your ass with." And then he proceeded to kick my ass for 4 straight hours. Right up there with Digweed, just that Digweed's more about the most incredible music experience, and Lee was about just making things fun, and using great tunes as a tool. Possibly the most fun I've had at a party in just about forever.

Hernan Cattaneo, I put him as the most pleasant surprise because I've had ups and downs with him, but he ripped out one of the most incredible sets I've ever heard. I didn't know what to expect, whether he'd be stuck in his bog prog days of old or if he'd put on a party. He brought his party hat, that's for sure, and the venue was small and intimate feeling, great sound, awesome music all night. So even though he's a recognized great, I was blown away by how much better it was than I expected.

Sasha in San Francisco...just HOLY . First of all, as those of you who caught the show will probably back me up on, this was truly one of Sasha's best sets, EVER. And an absolutely incredible night in all respects. I was sober but the music made me feel like I was rolling all night. There was absolutely nothing to complain about concerning this show, except that it was too short and I would have loved Sasha to play another 4 hours longer than he did. It was also a special personal connection for me, because Sasha's Global Underground 009: San Francisco compilation was one of the very first mixes I ever heard, a large part of what got me hooked on EDM in the first place (i'm one of those few people who jumped straight into House without needing Trance first). To see The Man Like, in that city, just made me feel home in the scene.

So, cheers to an Incredible year of great music, and cheers to hoping 2007's even better.

"Most Pleasantly Surprised" had to be Junkie XL at 4th and B in San Diego. It was incredible, and the crowd was pogoing the whole time.

Saw John Digweed and Felix Da Housecat (what an odd pairing!) at 4th and B a week or 2 before my son was born in June. Another incredible set although we left shortly after Felix came on. Thankfully, Diggers played from ~midnight to ~2am, and Felix came on later. It really felt like the beginning of the end for my clubbing days; shortly thereafter, 4th/B was sold.

Easy!

Tiesto @ Maya in Rosarito

Better than anything at WMC or anythign else in 2006.

Th most amazing crowd and energy I have ever experienced.

haha Quiz, I made the poster. The video you linked to is mine (my myspace). I actually recorded over an hours worth total. Like the link on that video said, it was a group project from the coachella forums... I just happened to be one of the major video contributors. The audio they got a hold of for the dvd is very good quality, its definitely worth the download.

i would have to say that each of the residencies and after parties for lee burridge are on the top of my list! especially the after parties, that man is an animal behind the decks!

also, any event that had jOOf this past year: um, nye 2005/06 with joof, june 23/24 san diego, edc with joof, august 2006 spundae with joof, and my birthday in october 2006 with joof. yeah, i know i just love joof. nothing spectacular about the venues but it's just the vibe and the energy and the tracks that he drops and brings just does it for me every time :)

and like someone mentioned above, there were a lot of great shows in 2006 so those are just the ones that stick out in my mind.

oh an of course the shows with piet from rank 1 and when benno came with him over the summer. so much fun and great music!!!!

steve lawlwer at avalon in june!!!!!!!! blew my f-ing mind!

and nic fanciulli, paolo mojo, and paul wooldorff and the TA party on the stage!
