Great thread. Now I need to dig out my Stones CDs as well. I saw them at Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville, TN during my sophomore year of college. Those boys rocked it out. Three years before that I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd (sans Roger Waters) during their Division Bell tour. Best.concert.ever. :)
Lilith
Chris Isaak's - I wanna fall in love
Has a beautiful melodic riff through it which isnt exactly in your face but sets the whole song.
Strings in The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony would be another memorable one.
Purple Haze, Jimmy H had some great songs.
Bloodletting- Concrete Blonde

Bloc Party, This Modern Love, Banquet & Luno, awesome riffs in those

Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones are pretty much my top two favorite bands of all time.

I have the intro guitar to Gimme Shelter as my ringtone :p
iammesol
Ferry Corsten - Punk immediately comes to mind.

I agree that most of the great riffs are in the classics-Pink Floyd, Led, Hendrix, etc., but one track that has a little riff at the end I really like is:

Third Eye Blind - Jumper

Yeah they're California poppy-rock, but that short riff at the end, while very simple, is freakin' addictive.

electric bass; but yeah, Third Eye Blind are awesome. Their first album is one of the best rock albums of the nineties.

Although I'm over that kind of trance (and trance in general), it sounds pretty nice... Who's the artist of it? :)
