That price is a fantastic ripoff. Normally $250? Maybe at that particular store... the list price is $150 and most stores are selling it for $100 or less because it's a discontinued model.
You're far better off with the K240S (the "industry standard"), it has better frequency response and will last longer, but is the same design in most other respects. What's more, it sells for about the same price - it's $100 at zzounds. |

Like Digi said, take the 240S.
Have tried the 141 and they ain't as good and especsially ain't comptable at all...the sit too tight on the ear, just like the HD25 which basicly give a ear ache after a few... That's what I felt. |

Is there much difference between the K240S and the K271S? I'm thinking of getting a pair as a replacement for my old damaged Audio-Technica ATH-M40fs. Looks like the K240s are not sold any more.

The k240s are definately not discontinued. You might be thinking of k240DF or k240M.
I wouldn't recommend the k271S phones due to their closed nature.
And they seemed to be lacking bass when I listened to them.
The k240S are semi-open, which is often more suitable for studio monitoring.
I own a pair of k240S phones and I think they're great. I use them along with my monitors when mixing. |

Are you sure they are discontinued? I know the K141 Monitors are discontinued, but apparently they still make these.
Thanks for the word of caution though, I'll check out the 240's :)
EDIT - Oh gay, seems like zzounds don't ship overseas!
And I was planning on getting monitors from them too :(
EDIT2 - I can't believe shipping from US to Australia is about $100. That's ing insane for some headphones! Looks like I will need to find some in Australia, but that's not that easy and they are bloody expensive. I really don't want to spend $300 on headphones. |

Hmm, the $100 is probably more of a "handling" cost than shipping (customs and all that crap). We have the same problem in Canada sometimes - something will be super cheap from the U.S. but by the time it gets across the border it's twice as expensive.
Fortunately we have some decent stores here that sell equipment at a reasonable price. I'm sure if you scout around you should be able to find some in AU. Better yet, make some friends in the USA. ;)
Edit: Actually I'm incorrect, AKG is still making the K141 "Studio" model, they've just discontinued the original K141. However, the comments about the price and the comparison to the K240S were still accurate. |

I have K 271s and they are by far the best cans I've ever had (and I
had many, every brand you can think of)
These are extremely accurate for monitoring as well, and that I've never seen (heard) before
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, WORTH 10 TIMES THEIR ACTUAL PRICE. |

Sure, but the k240S headphones are still a better choice. They have somewhat deeper and detailed bass and doesn't suffer from resonance like the k271S. |
