Yes it was me playing on that night Sander couldn’t make it. I respect the fact that you said your point of view, and you are right I was not perfect that night technically speaking…. but that could happen when your spinning vinyl and sampling the records live and doing edits on the fly. Originality and energy are a big part of my style and you can also say that I don’t play it safe but I would rather be known for that, than to be known for the same boring calculated mixes done for the new breed djs by their high tech cd players…
I would play records that have crackles in them, I like them for their imperfections because they have a certain vibe because that’s what I try to recreate in my sets… a mood or an energy, but I guess not every body understands that maybe because commercial cds these days are flawless mixes done on Abelton are confusing they give the impression that a party is only about perfect beat matching and smoothness…
Respect The Art Spin The Vinyl…
DJ Anton
PS from what i remeber it was a party that night and NYE with Steve Lawler as well, not forgeting the memorable night with Behrouz...

Good post, makes sense.
BUT
Don't diss technology man, especially in an industry where such a huge portion of the music is made on computers!
I have a big vinyl collection though, they're badass of course, but so are CDJs/Ableton Live/Serato etc. |

Thanks for the reply, Don’t worry I’m down with the latest technology and software and my studio is as cutting edge as you can get and I play CDs with all my promo music and special edits but if I believe in a track or a piece of music I go out and buy it and pay the full vinyl price, if the producer put the money and effort to put it out then I would support it and play the record. But not only does mixing records is more hands on and special but when u go for months hunting down tracks and digging through records and when u find those special cuts that gives us DJs a certain advantage that’s when you know you found a true weapon that will take your set to another level… Its not only about playing unreleased music, it about playing good music and presenting it in a way that only that particular DJ can and thus giving it his special Vibe….
Traveling DJs are an exception but once in a while you get that superstar DJ that will come of the plane not only carrying his CD case but small stack of Vinyl and to that I tip my hat….
One thing I know is that I will never be staring at my Powerbook and playing around with my mouse in the DJ booth that’s For Fo Sure!!!
Peace… |
