More than Beatmatching

Hey all. I have been DJing for about 1 year now and i am finding beatmatching just the same thing over and over and i want to incorperate different things into my sets. I own 2 X CDJ 1000 MK2 and a DJM 400. And all i seem to be able to do is on board effects on my mixer and beat matching there is more to DJing than that and i am not to sure what i should put into my mixes. Its not like house where you can place a accapella over the top and stuff i am mixing trance here and not sure how i can make my songs sound good and unique. What should i do? Sampling? I have no idea how to go about with this and i don't really want to spend money on a sampling unit.

Help me out here please

Thanks DSILVR

first off, id learn how to use the "," key on your keyboard.

I'm sure people would say use the search button (and you should first, actually), but generally:

beatmatching, phrase matching, effects (like you mentioned), harmonic mixing, equalizing.

Take some time, experiment around, maybe even record your practice sessions to see what you come up with.

Take a break, or explore other genres.

have you tried using an additional deck? have you tried incorporating ableton in your sets or using digital technology (exlusively or hybrid)?

I can't afford ableton or any of that software. Another deck. Hmm i am not to sure either but yeah.

You can try a demo to see if it's something you cant live without, some people get hooked right away like me!

Survived on trial CDs for the longest time before finally getting live 6.

yes some people get hooked real fast. give it a go, you wont know till you try! also i recommend torq it sounds like a good option for you especially if your on a budget. additionaly you could try getting into vj'ing to go with your music.

GET ABLETON

if you really dont want to, try mashing up live music

have a total of 3 decks, then with 2 of them playing at the same time

try to find 2 tracks that are harmonically equal and play them at the same time, while beat matching a third song and finding a fourth record to match the third song.

get creative and not just DJ like (COUGH PAUL OAKENFOLD COUGH)

Or better still actually develop your DJ skills and get yourself another CDJ and DJ for real ;)

^^ haha, +1..

I can't believe how many people are screaming "ABLETON".. :wtf:

Ableton is great but I wouldn't reccomend it to someone who has only been DJing for a year and is only looking for a few tips. Now if someone said I want to move over to DJing on a computer then I'd reccomend Ableton.
