Where you do you listen?

After reading various comments in several different threads lately, I have become curious about something: regardless of which genre you like most, (1) where do YOU listen to the majority of your music and (2)does the "where" affect how you feel about the direction of your favorite genre?
I live in a rural area in the Southeastern U.S. (city has a population of about 1,700). There is no such thing as a "scene" here. I know only about 5 to 10 other people that even know that EDM exists. I bedroom DJ for the fun/love of it. I'll never play out (other than to some visiting friends). I've never been to a dance club, and in reality I probably never will.
I "discover" most of my new music from listening to new mixcomp CDs, browsing the Music Discussion forum, or from downloading many a wicked set from our very own kick ass TA DJs in the Promotion forum. I don't get my trance from a club.
Do you feel that the "where" part of where you listen to/get the majority of your music affects how you feel about the genre in general? For example, I read comments saying this/that about "the scene". Since I don't participate in "the scene," I don't feel like my genre of choice (commercial, uplifting trance) is going to hell or ruining anything. However, if I went clubbing, I can't help but wonder if I would feel differently.
Sorry, I have rambled terribly. Your thoughts? |

I listen to most of my music at home. I don't really go out clubbing that often any more (unless there's really someone worth seeing, and , they normally skip Brisbane anyway).
I find a lot of new music here - The DJ promo forum is sweet. I also get a lot of new music stuff from friends with similar tastes to my own, though they are becoming less and less sadly. |
