Seems I'm getting worse...

After listening to my some recordings from about a month ago, I've figured that im not getting any better, in fact, im getting worse. I find this erally strange cause I practice for at least 1 hour everyday, and i'm not really happy about how my sets sound. Any tips? I've heard people say take a break for a while and you'll be better when you come back, but this is hard for me as i just totaled my car and besides work and school, I don't really have much else to do but spin. damn, sometimes this gets really frustrating.

Maybe you're thinking/trying too hard. That's when I always start to suck - my best mixes are always random and spontaneous.

Plus one,

It's also worth remebering that even those top jocks you look upto frankly aint perfect either. Seeing djs live etc they all up live the rest of us. There are one or two who are very very good (Digweed, etc)

But fact of the matter alot of DJs on TA could mix just as good as many top DJs.

ya i havent spun since november... and well .... it kinda shows, last night was the first time in a while i did it and i could match most songs but not exactly.. had to do alot of adjusting.. which disappointed me :/

Exactly what are you not happy about?

Transitions? Track selection?

i know ur not asking me.. but man 2 months is alot to miss.. feels like im spinning dated tracks.. and now its time to look for new tracks and i have no idea where to start.. its always a pain in the ass

my transitions just seem to be REALLY off. Its pissing me off because i've analyzed the intros and outros to my tracks thinking this would help my mixes sound better and more consistent, but they just sound worse than when i just do it without thinking about it.

Are you phrasing correctly?

Also helps to use CDJ1000 when it tells you where the little break in the tracks are... :)

Sounds like you're just tryin a little to hard. Just relax and you'll come around.

While it is important to relax and enjoy your mixing, perhaps you're just getting better and noticing your mistakes that were previously unnoticed.

Whenever I get frustrated, I go listen to a liveset and try to figure out how some of the parts that catch my ear are done, and then try to replicate them. Also, sometimes a short break away from the decks is enough of a refresher.

Also, record your sets.

So that you can analyze your own mixing and find where you're making mistakes.

this has happened to me before and i feel like its just a "phase" you go through. could also be you just realizing hte mistakes your making like someone else mentioned. this can get very frustrating if you get anxious and annoyed with how your doing...it reinforces doing bad and its just an endless cycle. like people said just relax. i HIGHLY suggest switching genres a bit as it sort of "jump starts" creativity sometimes.
