Apple IPhone (pg. 2)

perhaps it maye be time for another update in terminology in the coming years. the term 'mp3' player is fairly obsolete, as not too many media players are limited to just playing mp3's anymore. maybe it will be the same for the cell phone *shrugs*. phone/internet/mssging/GPS, sounds like more of just a general telecommunications device to me. in any case it's one of the sexiest looking pieces of tech i've seen in a while lol. sucks that it's w/cingular. as far as the price goes, most 'smart phones' average $400 or so when they're first released so it's not that big of a jump. i was all set to get a blackberry. i think i'll hold off now and see where this all goes. i've been anti iPod and anti iEverything for years. i have to admit though, Apple's really turning up the heat on Microsoft with this one.

No one's even mentioned durability yet?

What happens if the screen is broken or cracked? From the information that I know now, you're a sitting duck since you won't be able to make a single phone call.

Le sigh.

I certainly hope this thing lives up to its already massive hype.

what happenes if the screen gets cracked? LOL. You use the insurance you put on the phone to get you a replacement :p . Seriously though, I couldn't see myself getting a phone like that without some kind of insurance coverage. Forget about the screen being cracked. Living here = greater chance of it being lost or stolen... or stolen. Did I mention stolen?? :wtf:

ehh... i guess i aint a phone gadget kinda dude.. as long as i can make calls, recieve calls, text msg and got tetris on that , im straight.

IPod is amazing, I am thinking of waiting a few months after this comes out so Apple can work the kinks out, and the price will drop. Looks pretty sick though! At least 1 good thing came out of keeping Cingular:stongue:

You're on the ball there. Don't take your iPhone out while you're walking around the city or riding the trains. :stongue:

A few months?

That's being extremely hopeful.

Cingular will more than likely offer a $400 8GB for new 2-year contract and that'll last for quite a while.

As for Apple working kinks out?

They're still doing it on the iPods, aren't they? lol

think of how killer it would have been if apple decided to put it on verizon network - EvDO vs. Edge. Crap, the iTunes revenue would SOAR!

You could download tunes straight into this gizmo - making it worth it. However, on a 56Kbps-like connection that is EDGE (cingular) network - BLEH.

Not to repeat the rest of the observations/comments already made. Plus the pricetag is outrageous. Considering you can get bunch of other (much more capable) devices + have money for iPod 80GB + have money left over for a nice diner for two + have a cheaper phone plan = THANKS BUT I'LL PASS.

.....im not even mentioning the whole proprietary .acc (iTunes) format.

Nice to see apple try. Perhaps next time.

Yeah, I'm gonna need to switch back to Cingular for this one. Can't wait for it to come out and can't wait to see how much Apple pays for the iPhone trademark from Cisco.

More 'meh' news:

quote:
* It was again confirmed that customers must agree to a two year contract, even if that requires customers to renew their current service.

WHAT

THE

ING

HELL?

I'm not even considering purchasing this phone and yet this enfuriates me.

quote:
* There is no iTunes revenue sharing.

Cingular loloses.

quote:
* There will be no physical branding on the iPhone but Apple branding. The only AT&T / Cingular branding will be on-screen where the carrier readout is shown.

Nothing quite like a multi-branded phone FTW!

quote:
* Although nothing was confirmed, Cingular made it sound as though users might be able to expect a specially bundled data plan for the iPhone.

Well... I don't know what to think of this. It was definitely good for Sidekick and Blackberry users. Can't see how Apple and Cingular can screw this one up. Doesn't necessarily mean it won't happen.

I'm hoping for the best for the people who this phone applies to.

You're assuming that they will pay.

If anything, Cisco might not even want to sell the trademark. Make Apple look stupid. Apple would have to choose a new name.
