hi guys, just a quick questionnaire im doing for a uni project on choosing a bank account, please take 5 mins to fill in this v quick questionnaire (i know its banking, but its not boring!)

copy & paste.

Who do you bank with & why?

What type of account do you use (i.e. student)?

What benefits/assurances would like to recieve when signing up to an account (be creative please!)?

If you could change one thing about your bank what would it be?!

What do you think about bank advertising?

Thanks for your time guys, any answers are great.

1. HSBC - at the time they offered the best deal for 13 year olds.

2. normal bank account

3. Financial & lots of them!

4. I'd make them get things right. Hard i know ;)

5. tbh hsbc adverts aren't too bad, no gimps singing which helps.

Who do you bank with & why?

Halifax: I'm Only with them because I started with them years back and have never got round to changing to another provider. Personally I think they are terrible.

What type of account do you use (i.e. student)?

Halifax Current Account

What benefits/assurances would like to recieve when signing up to an account (be creative please!)?

something that I can use when I sign up would be nice. High street spending vouchers/discounts for example.

If you could change one thing about your bank what would it be?!

without a shadow of a doubt the outrageous and unfair amounts they charge for things like failed direct debits/going into an unauthorised overdraft etc.

What do you think about bank advertising?

some of it's quite good such a the Natwest adverts that take the piss out of bad bank service. Others such a the Halifax Howard adverts are tacky and make me cringe.

to answer all questions in one go. banks are aweful. dont trust them and they charge ridiculous fees.

Your not one of these dodgy West African types from Nigeria or Ghana involved in the amazing fraud scams like I've found Oil in my field please send moneys. :p

Who do you bank with & why?
Not a bank but a building society - Nationwide.

What type of account do you use (i.e. student)?
Flex Account (bog standard account) and a savings account.

What benefits/assurances would like to recieve when signing up to an account (be creative please!)?
Anything that's rewarding and intresting at the same time. One of these actually because Frank Windsor's company refused to chuck in this tacky freebie!

On a serious note, some vouchers like Waitrose or something would do fine.

If you could change one thing about your bank what would it be?!
Ban old people from using it. Every time I go in there to pay a bill or sort something out the place is full of old people sorting out unimportant rubbish like their grandkids savings.

What do you think about bank advertising?
Rubbish has that annoying fat brummie git with glasses in.

Who do you bank with & why?

barclays. because nationwide refused to upgrade my 'link' card to ANYTHING. they said since i'd never been in debt and therefore didn't have any credit built up they suggested getting a loan...to which i said that's complete bollocks and walked out.

barclays was the nearest bank so i walked in and they sorted me with an electron card within a week [saying i could upgrade to debit within 3-6 months, its been about 3 monts now]

What type of account do you use (i.e. student)?

normal electron account, no extras

What benefits/assurances would like to recieve when signing up to an account (be creative please!)?

internet banking is a good thing, quick responses from your bank and your card being accepted everywhere

If you could change one thing about your bank what would it be?!

nothing really, i have yet to have any problems. even setting up my savings account online was a doddle.

What do you think about bank advertising?

pretty rubbish, but they're all at it aren't they.

haha, no not at all mate, im a student, studying advertising, in my final year at uni. this is purely for research purposes, im doing an advertising project for barclays bank, finding out about why people choose bank accounts and why. TA is a great place for research i have found out over the past 3 months, its a great place to ask a wide audience, but specifically for this project im asking the uk forum, as my audience is uk only.
some good useful stuff here, keep the replies coming, v helpful.

thanks, dfop

1. Lloyds because they came to my school back when I was 13 so I opened a account with them.

2. Graduate Account

3. They will refund errors in the banking system if they go awry - eg bounced debit shouldn't be charged £35.

4. Subtle using the black horse to great effect.

KInd of off topic but to find the best current account with the best interest rates check out www.moneysavingexpert.com. So much good advice you wouldn't think that there is a current account with a 6.1% interest rate would you?

i wouldnt call it wide, males between the ages of 17-25 who I've found are often middle class and bizarrely often have a political belief to the right of centre
