I just found out about www.youmail.com This free service is badass. It replaces your standard cingular, t-mobile, or verizon voicemail with there. You can customize a specialzed greeting for each phone number and retrieve the voicemail by either your phone, the website, or sent in an email.
For me its great since i work in a building that blocks all the receptions.
it also gives you easy directions to setup your phone to their service and easy setup to go back to your old one if you don't like it.
All it cost is regular airtime and Long distance to CA (voicemail number is located there)
It also has a "ditch" feature that you can setup for phone numbers.. where it will give a "This mailbox is full" or something similar to that number every time :p
You can configure most the options either via the phone or through the internet. Check it out!
