the answer to this...
it's best to do whatever you are comfortable with. personally when i switch vinyl, i leave the pitch where it was at and then adjust it as needed.
the answer to your first question...
i don't know, i'm sure there is some simple forumula for figuring it out tho. |

Find the bpm of the song at 0% pitch.
Lets say we have track "A" here at 134 bpm.
Each 1% you increase it should theoritacally increase it by 1.34bpm.
If you're using this information to help you beatmatch, don't! It will only make things hard for you later on where you have to rely on this method beathmatch. |

Tsukai is right on. Think of things as simply moving the decimal. Just like he said, moving 1% on 134 BPM will give you plus or minus 1.34 (100 x .01 = 1.34) BPM. So, you'd end up with a BPM of 135.34 or 132.66 depending on which way you moved the pitch slider. A 138 BPM track moved 1% would create a change of 1.38 BPM, ad infinitum.
As stressed, this will only get you in the ballpark. I find it useful for setting my "first guess" on the pitch slider, but only your ears will lock those beats in for you. |

I think raising the pitch by 3% will raise the key by 1/2 step.
Misread the original question. =D I could probably derive the equation, but I don't really want to. =P
As to resetting the pitch fader to 0, it's really preference. I'll usually reset it (and EQs on the mixer) to the 0 position and go from there.
Although you shouldn't rely on calculating the exact percentage to beatmatch, you can use it to check how close you are (if you know the track BPMs ahead of time). |
