Someone piggybacking my connection!
View this Thread in Original format

Encrypting my connection is too easy. I found their MAC address, and can probably get more , hopefully I can get enough info for a remote connection.

Any computer genius want to help me have fun?

Tonight, ask him to piggy back you. :stongue:

Start with a port scan. My tool of choice is nmap. Try
nmap -O [ip_addr]. nmap will also try to guess what operating system is being used, provided it finds enough ports open to fingerprint.

See what ports are open. Alternatively, you can see if they have Windows File Sharing (eg. NetBIOS) enabled, by either nbtstat -A [ip_addr]. You can try connecting with a start > run (assuming you're on Windows, of course) \\[ip_addr]. You may have to tweak your firewall settings, but be careful! Don't expose your computer to them unnecessarily.

That should get you started. MAC address isn't really that useful (although you can figure out what type of network card and possibly what kind of computer he has), unless you're trying to break into a wireless network or something. =)

Of course, you can do all sorts of fun (or nasty) things, such as run a proxy server in the middle to modify incoming/outgoing data, capture passwords, etc., eg. conduct all sorts of man-in-the-middle attack. Use this with caution, however. You could face some serious repercussions if you misuse any of the information acquired in this manner.

(I suppose you could always try a remote privilege escalation and turn his/her computer off... again, be careful.)

That's like being told you have go steal this persons car but you don't know where they live.

Mac adress is no good. You might be able to spoof yourself in place of that mac adress to take over what they are doing but only between themselves and the destination ( aka not control their computer directly ).

There's plenty of routes to go really

If he's already connected to your wireless router, you should already have the IP. If you can't find it, try going into the router status page, and look at the DHCP client table. Bonus on some routers is it'll have the computer name.

nmap -sP [ip_addr-range] will basically ping a range of addresses, eg. 192.168.1.1-254 or whatever you specify.

Sniffing traffic is something you probably would be most interested in doing; many people use the same passwords for things, so if you have one password, well. Game over.

Here's something you can try: if there is an open share (writable), it's possible to dump the Windows password hashes and crack them later..
