beatmatching is a good technique. You should learn how to beatmatch. Sometimes the best way to do this is with guns.

ok man well if u are new to the genre, watch out for the different styles (psychedelic, melodic, uplifting, etc etc)....they dont all mix well together.

Don't worry dude, I think he was just pulling your leg.
Probably a good idea if you give us a hint as to what you are listening to and playing.
A lot of the techniques etc are interchangeable but there are definately types of trance that can leave you open to more experimentation than others.
The stuff with more melody tends to be a little bit stricter in terms of what you can do, but the driving stuff and tech trance will let you do more (as a general rule, not true for all DJs).

Welcome by the way.

Cheers

i like to mix more of melodic trance vocals and also hard techno.

i am about to 'release' a melodic trance mix myself...it's a departure from the style of trance i normally mix. most of my collection is on the lesser-melodic ('driving') side of the house - it's just what i like best. but i can really dig some good melodic vocals, too, which is why i decided to dedicate a mix to just that area.

the main thing i have taken away from the production is a very basic idea: one of the biggest hurdles is overcoming clashes in key. i dont have any equipment that changes key at the CD/source level. so i had to take extra time obviously to find tracks that blended well...the same challenge you'd have with any genre that's key heavy...

when i do mix-in melodic/vocals on a normal basis, i just sprinkle them in between tracks that tend to have drum-only intro/outros...again, techniques that apply to any genre...

yea i get what u are saying. i have now started to right down my mixes and judge on what songs blended in well. the way i mix my vocals thought is for the singing between songs not to really stop so that there is a constant vocal feel to it, they have the songs that dont progress vocaly right through the song but i try to make it work actually. but i am quite new to this so i am trying things to see whats my best groove i actually have a link to one of my mixes.http://files.to/get/335502/2255/dj_matts-signs000.mp3 its not that good but the only one i got time to upload. if u want u can check it out and tell me how it sounds
