Worshiping is a waste of time? Maybe. I don't think anybody can say yes or no for certain.
Taking time out to view religion as more of a moral guide? Certainly not a waste of time.
Regardless of whether or not there's an actual God or gods there's plenty to be learned, morally, from each religion.
