hey heres the deal, I have 2 cdj200's and a djm 400, which i heart dearly. I also have a laptop, and Im curious on how to get the sound im making from the cdjs/mixer into my laptop for recording. Ive got sony sound forge 8 if that helps, but my main question is what kind of device do I need to get in order for my laptop to recieve and recognize the sound coming in? I found something called an Edirol UA-1EX, are they any good for basic recording? I know Ive just written a novel, but if anyone could help that would be wicked, cheers,
Loz

You can do it right now if you have a line in input...you just need a RCA to mini plug converter cable (maybe $5 at local radio shack).

If you don't have a line in, then you CAN use your microphone input in a pinch...but it will be noisy and I don't recommend it.

If you don't have a line in, then I'd just get any USB or firewire (if you have it) soundcard...that Edirol one would work fine.

i believe u have to run the rca from your booth out put in your mixer. your sound card must also support it

I use the imic2 from Apple
You can get it for a pretty good price from Amazon

so then because my laptop doesnt have any line-in capability, just USB ports, I should get an interface like the Edirol one or the apple one as described above. Once acquired I would connect the red/white cable (is it called an RCA? sorry im so new to this!) from some port in my mixer to the USB interface, and then the interface into my laptop?
Im sure i'll get the hang of it with some guidance! cheers again,

Last question then... is the Imic going to give me as good a quality sound as the Edirol model? and when i buy either one, how do I connect it to my mixer, or where am I supposed to connect it to in terms of where im outputting the music?

The imic gives you 192k.
I don't know anything about the Edirol but when you buy the imic, it includes some cables to get you started. I don't know if you have a radioshack in Canada but go to an electronics store and they can help you out.
The imic has two ports. One side connects to the mixer and the other connects to your computers usb port to record everything.
