mainstream or not judging from those T/L's, a woman with menopause has more flow than that :wtf:

You are entitled to your opinion, but if you were there, you would've known why this tracklisting makes sense. This tracklisting is geared more toward people that don't go out to your average Avalon, or Spundae. This crowd likes to sing out loud. That's why there's dance remixes of Spanish Rock & Top 40 in there.

Woody don't worry about the haters,

Hey some people like playing in front of a big crowd and making sure the crowd is pleased, some people get together with their friends and play stuff they like and pretend they are a famous duo...hehe

Ok, the other DJ really wanted to show me his remix of Sexy Back, so I gave him a chance to play it. It was good, but I really wanted to hear Xpander on a LOUD system. So I cut his song right away. Hahaha And because Xpander is kinda mellow and not exactly too mainstream, I had to switch it up to even more mainstream quickly! haha

so you're going to sit there and tell me those T/L's had flow? c'mon.

you said for yourself you "wanted to hear xpander on a big system" so you play it out of some remix of sexy back that you let some other dj drop? which you then admit that it was "kinda mellow" so you had to switch it up.

surely one can satisfy the "mainstream" crowd and still retain some dignity as a dj and actually play a set that flows regardless of the crowd.

Its a question of audience. Yeah the tracklist is gonna look to us, we're EDM fans, we know better. But you have to play for the party and in this case, it looks like you delivered what they wanted, no matter how icky that result may be :p

I've had to play such sets before, although sans Tiesto and Spanish Rock...and its fun, its a challenge keeping energy levels good with stuff you dont normally play.

Awesome Woody! :)

this one must be hott

A violinest playing over Traffic like that is worse than those conga drummers that come in and ruin sets.

I would have been throwing eggs at her if I could, me thinks, lol.

I just find it annoying more than anything....but that's what _I_ think.

I think a DJ should be able to read his crowd and play to the crowd. That videos crowd you cant really waste time educating people with minimal techno or tech house or the latest Tigerskin track. I think the tracklist fits the environment it was played in. I saw a couple doin some merengue/salsa dancing to trance music.

Looked like a fun party...I rather go to a party full of nubs than a party full of jaded and fickle edm "pros". Thats why I like Vanguard rite now. Its a good mix of hardcore crowd and people who seem to be new to partyin out at a EDM club, which always brings a good vibe. :D

You took the words out of my mouth! Thats exactly how I feel. That's why I have more fun djing at these parties than parting at most EDM Events. People in the EDM scene are too hardcore and they don't enjoy it as much because they're worring too much. At these parties the energy is amazing, people are super friendly, and they're not all cracked out. I'm not about to do a set like I do at Spundae at this event, people would leave the dancefloor in a heart beat.

My favorite crowd is still Tiesto in Tijuana and Rosarito. That crowd is awesome!

personally I would have told the violinist to off until she could keep in actual time with the beat of the music. her sense of rhythm is ing terrible.

and then I probably still would have told her to stfu, because it doesn't sound good. I'm sort of an elitist snob when it comes to orchestral stuff, and this just screams "wannabe" to me.

But i'm glad you had a good time. And it sounds like the crowd enjoyed it.

I dont see why you guys have to have two extreme views though :p Can't there be a middle ground? Does every party have to be a bunch of uneducated masses of people who all just want to hear "that one song I heard a million times and know it by heart OMG" I would get bored playing to these people every night...they just want to hear the same over and over...

And why is anyone who really loves EDM and follows the DJs they like automatically "jaded and fickle"? Too hardcore? lol As for the "cracked out" s...stop going to Avalon :p You havn't been to very many great clubs around the world aye? Yeah theres people on drugs, but thats not to say other parties dont have their share of abusers...drunks/cokeheads etc. I'm pretty sure there are still great EDM clubs around where people are friendly and care about the music.

I played to an older, loungy type crowd at Mi Piace a few weeks back, and while I did drop some more popular stuff, I played mostly good house tracks and managed to keep everyone interested and dancing without going too far off the deep end with stuff like "As The Rush Comes" :haha:

Imo, its all about context and who you're playing for. I think, given the right crowd, even if they arent 100% into house or trance, if you set them up right, and ease them into it, they will find themselves dancing. Its all about maintaining energy levels and keeping people on that ride...
