Hopefully someone knows something about this, but I want to get a book that has all the medical schools in them, with acceptance statistics, campus life, and the types of programs/clerkships offered.
I dont know about princeton review or kaplan, I want to stick to a writer/publisher that doesnt compete with another program/company. I know there is USNews, but I dont know if it has the stuff I want. |
you hear that? its a hospital calling you...they need the floors swept |

in all reality, you can get just as good of an education at one school vs another, as long as you can adjust.
school rankings for the most part don't mean a whole lot, because to me, i felt like i learned a lot about just being a decent human being and the people i interacted with mattered more than going to a supossedly #2 skool.
if you're really in dire straits for something, check out the Gourman Report. has all that statistica crap that really doesn't matter when you're officially in college. |

| Its not about rankings, although I pay attention to them its not what Im interested in... its the statistics that I care most about. How many applicants apply where, whats the criteria used for the selection process, how many were accepted, how many from which region of the country, what race were they... stuff like that - and than the programs which better suit my interest. I dont want to spend about $300 (per school) applying to a school that definitely wont take me. |

that sounds like overkill. What do you think the statistics will say? This school didn't take any Russians? It's about feeling like you will fit into the school, its atmosphere, its vibe, the people. It's not about playing probabilities that a kid of your age, race, etc can get in based on past statistics.
but hey, knock yourself out. |

Apparently you have no idea how the application process works with med schools. Everything is based upon statistics, yes, your grades and personal statement help you get the interview... but in the end all the school cares about is filling its quota with what they feel is the best fit for the school.
Its not overkill, why would you apply to schools that you know wont accept you? For example, Duke has a great med program, but the school admits 90% of the people from certain universities and programs (like Harvard), and the other 10% are random from all up and down the East Coast. 100 people are admitted into the program. Would you apply here? Probably not. |
