You better get into space! You are certainly qualified! |

@ DJ Kenosis:
So where are you going to find employment? |
Well, the two most likely routes are either a research faculty position (e.g. UC-Berkeley) or a pure research position (e.g. JPL or NOAO). I would prefer to teach a little bit as I think it keeps me on my toes. |

Nah, if I did microgravity experiments on the coagulation of dust grains I may have an excuse to go into space. In my work, though, I just use space telescopes for some projects. I doubt I would like to get stuck at one of the Earth's Lagrangian points along with the telescope :D. |

Don't mean to "hijack" the thread, but as far as books go, I don't know if it's exactly what your looking for, but I used to have a hankering for theoretical physics/"space" and I really enjoyed Michio Kaku's books (Hyperspace, Parallel Worlds, etc.). Flatterland: Like Flatland, Only More So, by Ian Stewart was another "fun" read. I don't really consider any of these to be scholarly, but they are very interesting...if you like that stuff.
Maybe Kenosis can comment... |

I suspect that's not what he's looking for but some of those books may be of interest. I've heard that Lisa Randall's book is rather well written. Of course, there's always A Brief History of Time and The Universe in a Nutshell. |

Ok, I thought about it for a little while ...
There are a couple of introductory astronomy books that get used often:
"The Physical Universe" - Frank Shu
for something more technical ..
"Introductory Astronomy & Astrophysics - Stephen A. Gregory and Michael Zeilik
I noticed that both of these are a bit pricey. I'll search around a little while for something less expensive. Regardless of what else you buy, get A Brief History of Time ;). |

| Physics, by Finn and Alonso should get you guys up to speed on basic astronomy. J/K but seriously Hawking's Brief History of Time is an amazing book. |

I tried to make my paper as readable as possible, so do give it a shot. I can answer any questions you have about what I'm trying to say. |
