Boo hoo; try living in a state w/o minimum wage laws. I worked at a place for 2 years straight and only made $6.60 by the time I left.

Its actually a 40% increase... both of you are horrible with math.
A $2.10 increase from $5.15. 2.1 is roughly 40% of 5.15.
And if anyone took an economics class knows there are the laws of supply and demand. Raising the minimum wage gives people more money to spend(which they will) which increases demand for goods. And an increase in the demand for a good lowers its price.
It's confusing as hell because you would think that by raising it it would increase inflation a ton, but there are many other factors to take into consideration.
It's been a year and a half since I took an eco class so someone else that is possibly an eco major, or is in one now can probably explain it better. |
29% actually.

actually, it is a 29% increase.
I thought about a 29% increase, but I guess that'll just be my minimum asking wage for my next job. |

from $5.15/hr to $7.25, an increase of 140%, those individuals who make over minimum wage but are paid hourly should too get a 140% increase in pay raise as well, to reflect the standard of living increase.
for example, if you're making say 8 bucks an hour, it would make sense that you should be paid $11.68/hr now.
dont you think?
i mean i work at best buy. i get paid 12.50 an hour which isnt that good of a wage.
but closing the gap between fast food worker and techno geek?
doesnt seem fair. | Last time they incrased the minimum wage i got an increase in my pay.they called it an "adjustment of living increase". ask about it at work dood |

show me your math!
every time i divide 7.25 by 5.15, i get 1.4077669902912621359223300970874
so, 5.15*1.4077669902912621359223300970874=7.25
therefore
7.25=~140% of 5.15
i would say the original poster worded his post poorly, but we all knew what he meant
i get a three percent raise every year |

Which wouldn't that make it a 40% increase?
7.25 - 5.15 = 2.10
2.10 / 5.15 = 0.40
0.40 X 100% = 40%
Therefore the amount they get now is 40% more than it was before. |

Yes I understood what eFeKz originally meant, but I was suprised to be the first to get the correct increase in percentage pointed out.

that would make it a 40% increase, with the final value being 140% of the original. |
