Engin Ogutveren pres. Majera - Velvet Sun :eyespop:
Holy hell this is my kind of warm, uplifting trance! I had to stop reading and turn this one up. Is this something that will see an official release?
Edit: finishing up this mix now. Mixing is great. Everything is really tight from a technical standpoint. Some of the tracks are "harsher" and "techier" than I personally prefer, but that's just a matter of taste.
I'd really love to have Velvet Sun to spin at home! Wow. |

Well, its my second listen through, and I have to say, just loving this first track. Killer remix by Sander...
Fantastic first mix, the vocals in this track are so angelic. Loving it. Second mix is equally stunning, with the EQ levels absolutely perfect. So smooth, I can't even tell when you've finished mixing the old track, perfect harmonics on this mix.
Not as a big a fan of your third mix. It is technically perfect, but the songs don't mesh as well as the last two did. Sounds like you are changing the tone of the set with this track, subtle enough to enjoy it.
Very interesting use of Jazz Piano in a slightly edgier song, contrasts well.
24 minutes in and the energy is starting to carry really well. This is a perfect Friday Morning type set.
Exotic influences in this track, not quite asian, but definitely exotic. This contrasts well with the energy being built so far...
30 minutes in and its a little more uplifting than i was expecting, LOL. Still quality nonetheless.
This track with the killer piano, it must be Velvet Sun? What a TUNE!
This track at 40 minutes with the vocal in it, love the techy edge. Finally going to get me moving again! Fantastic beat in this track, love it.
Well, just finished up the set and must say it was a pleasure listening to it. Great mixing, EQing is perfect and phrasing is spot on. Would recommend this to anyone who love great euphoric trance! |

Now that's what I call a detailed review! :eyes:

Hmmm, I don't really think this set is euphoric. Of course it has some euphoric elements in the last half, but not enough to title it euphoric though.
Anyway, first question. What did you use to mix this set? I guess it were neither vinyls nor CDJs. It's just too perfect. :tongue2
Unfortunately I'm not that enthusiastic about "Velvet Sun" like the others. :tongue3 In my ears that tune is too perfect. The melody is really great, but I somehow can hear almost every single layer. I mean, this track is not "dirty" enough, just too electronic. :D
To come to the flow. Well, it's very well done. The first block is a great techy/progy development to the uplifting/euphoric part starting at about minute 24. The now following tunes "The Silmarillia" and "Velvet Sun" build a nice combination with the sets first climax at "Velvet Sun".
After this you change again to a harder line with the next two tunes coming to the second climax at the end of "Creature Of Habit". Very nice way.
With the last two tracks you cool down till the end, what I love. The only thing here is the transition between those. It's too hard. In my opinion, you should have put another track between them functioning as a bridge to get a smoother ending.;)
To sum up: Technically perfect mix with a smooth first 24 minutes, two climaxes (one uplifting, one techy  ) and a nice thematic ending, but including a too hard transition.
All in all a very good set to recommend! |

@DJSoulstone:
First of all, thank you very much for this precise and very interesting comment. I agree with you in most points of your analysis.
I'm amazed how you describe the build-up, because it was exactly my intention to do it this way. :)
I understand that the last transition may sound a bit hard, because the "Vortex" track jumps right into the action.
There's one thing you guessed wrong though: yes, it was mixed with CDs. I used a good old Pioneer DJM-500 and two Pioneer CD-players (CDJ 800). :tongue2
Thanks again for listening and giving feedback,
Marcel |
