Multiple DAW Installations

Are there any issues with having several or all i.e. Cubase, Sonar, Reason and Ableton live sowfware DAW's installed on a Single OS?

I presume at least 2 is ok? i.e. Rewiring

I dont believe my HArdware is an issue but are there concerns with drivers, resources or applications stepping on each other. The reason why I ask is I am in the experimentation pahse of determining which of the aforemention I would like to stick with.

Also can each run an instance of a VST for example?

Thank you in advance for your responses!

no problems, yes you can open VSTs in most common DAWs. (cept reason)
DeZmA
no issues except money. (or download limits)

What I meant was, lets say, and I only say hypothetically because it may not be feasible or you may ask why but anyway. If I have one application running with a track that contain a zeta vst rewired into another app that has a track with the same vst (zeta) with this work? I think it should beause the vst is a .dll (can you tell im a programmer lol) whick can have multiple instantiations. No?

to be honest, i dont know anything about rewire, because i've never had to use it.

the best thing would be to try it and see if it works...

and, why would you want z3ta running in both apps? i mean im sure you could, but if you had two programs rewired togethor, i would think that you would just want 1 DAW for VST hosting...

i think you are trying to make things too complicated, if you are just trying to figure this information out because you want to "demo" all the different DAWs, none of this should really be a huge concern.

but like i said, try it first, that's the best way to get the answer heh.:)

All VST plugins run in their own instance so your rewire scenario wouldn't be a problem, unless it's a hardware-based VST with explicit limitations like the Virus PowerCore.

If it's not a rewire scenario, I can't see why you'd ever want to have multiple sequencers/hosts. I'm not even a fan of rewiring, personally - anything you can do in one sequencer you can do in another.

Programs like Cubase and Live pull up VST automatically - assuming it is looking in the folder they reside in. However, Sonar will need to convert the VSTs into DXi files, which is a bit trickier - but isn't all that hard. Then you can share all SS or effects with all your programs.

Rewire is great - allows you to run multiple programs that synch together very sweetly.

I have Sonar and Acid on my music PC - no problems at all....

No issues with having them all installed. But I think you're referring to having them run simultaneously, which is something different altogether. ;)

If you think you'll run them simultaneously, your computer will die. It doesn't matter what you have, even good computers struggle once a good producer has a crack at them. Also don't touch rewire. Its flaky as hell, last time I tried it, it kept crashing my sessions.
