More people should try to check out to some of these smaller parties...Sarah's last apparance at ToiBar with some of the Fukhouse crew was a blast!

WHO Local DJ Sarah Mixington (Sarah Helppi by day) has fast-tracked through the Toronto techno scene. Inspired by role model Misstress Barbara after catching her set at a party in 2001, Helppi bought turntables while still in school in London, Ontario and began teaching herself the basics. After attending dozens of techno parties to study the sound while improving on tight mixes and beat matching, Helppi debuted in the summer of 2003 at System Soundbar. The following year, Helppi placed first runner up in the semi-finals of Heineken's Found @ Thirst DJ competition. She has since played across the city at venues ranging from Boa-Redux to The Docks to The Drake Hotel, making it onto bills with artists like Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig, Phil Weeks, Tony Rohr and Dietrich Shoenemann, as well as local heroes like Greg Gow, Tim Patrick and Kenny Glasgow. In the last year, Helppi has been exploring acid house and electro and has compiled two mixes: "TechnoStrasse" and "ElectroStrasse."
WHAT: Techno, techno, techno. "I get bored playing house tracks with big breakdowns where you have to wait to mix in the next track," says Mixington. "Techno is meant to be layered – it relies on the DJ to create the intensity in a set, not the tracks themselves. I like to be working."

WHAT SOCIAL/GLOBAL ISSUE CONCERNS YOU MOST? "The environment, specifically as it relates to corporate social responsibility. I have a business degree and some training in public relations, but I spent most of 2006 studying for my LSAT exam and applying to various law schools. I am hoping to go back to school to study environmental law in the near future. Eventually, I'd like to combine business, PR and law to help the business world take more responsibility for its actions."
