Although I am not liking the reason we are having this party, I can't think of 2 people more deserving of a brilliant send off!!
This will be part 1...part 2 will be the Welcome Home party!!!!!

So I feel the need to explain the 'reason' behind this party. We've been hoping for the best for the past few months, but what it comes down to is Canada Immigration dragging their feet when it comes to processing our landed immigrant status (which we thought we'd have by Sept). We've been fighting for a stay, which we lost. There was the possibility of an appeal, but money is running out, and it would be costly and risky. We thought it best to just comply with their ruling and leave, rather than get a 'black mark' on our records/ application for our ultimate goal. We plan to re-apply for work permits, which should hopefully only take 3 mos to get, and then we'll be back. In the meantime, we've got a couple dear friends (Aslan & Rich) who will probably move into our place (which we so desperately want to keep) for the time we'll be gone, and care for our cats.
We still haven't figured out where we're going in the interim. Most likely I'll go to DC, and Graham to Ireland (since the US won't let Graham in via car). 3 mos apart is rather heartbreaking, so we're looking into options of us getting back together in either country, or quite possibly spending a few months in Israel w/my family (provided Graham can get a job at an Irish bar, the one job that would bring a smile to his face, ;) ).
Hopefully we'll get a better idea of our plans by the end of next week, and we'll keep you all posted. Whether we end up in DC, Ireland or Israel, guests are most welcome! |
