If that's true, then I guess Japanese cars a testament to the saying "it's not how big it is, it's how you use it." Don't know if that made you feel better or worse though   . |

I don't agree with you on this. For example, in Russia we didnt have Ten Commandments in schools, thanks to communism's anti-religious campaign. After Soviet Union collapsed, so did almost every single aspect of life in Russia, including the family.
In United States there could be many reasons for their decline of families. One might assume that most Asians probably have, follow and know ten commandments because they have highest percentage family composition of any ethnic groups in USA - last time I checked most Asians are buddhists, atheists, muslims, hindus, etc!! Its the Whites that mostly have them [Ten Commandments] and smaller numbers of other groups like Blacks and Hispanics, of course - but - Whites make up the biggest population chunk in USA they are the ones who have the biggest population and social decline in United States. Care to emphasize? |

Me thinks American women are stupid and American males are stupid. American males want nothing but ass and American women fall for men who are the least expectable of fathering children or being good husbands.
There are a lot of reasons as to why marriage is on the decline. But the reason is lack of any body wanting to have a significant relationship with some one else. |

There is a very large subset of society that are in committed, long-term relationships that have not and do not plan on getting married.
The emphasis on marriage in western society dates back to the middle ages when the church (which was the law) decreed that there could be no sex outside of marriage. A decent portion of the population followed that in the last half century and realized that they married this person to have sex with them, then later decided it really was not all it was cracked up to be. Thus the hightening divorce rate, and the subsequent jading of culture to give marriage a less important role in interpersonal relations.
I am not saying that there is anything wrong with marriage. But it seems odd to think that a social construct dictating precisely how a necessary special survival function is carried out is the end all, be all of human interaction.
You don't have to be comitted to someone to be married, nor do you have to be married to be committed to someone.
