Why is it voting has gone down for the TOTY?

Last year there were just 372 total votes for the final poll, and I seem to remember it had been advertised rather blatantly all around the boards. There was even a subforum given to the 2005 TOTY, but it still resulted in only 372 total votes on a board with almost 70,000 members (given the fact that many of those members are inactive).
I'm wondering why is it then that the 2004 TOTY poll had 657 votes and the 2003 TOTY had 732 votes? Is it because those years had tracks like In Silence, As The Rush Comes, Beautiful Things, Whiteroom, and other vastly popular tracks? There were less members at the time, so logic would dictate there would be fewer votes.
Any ideas? |

maybe lack of interest,
in my opinion someone should better be made to vote when he log's in to this forum at all,
this way everybody would have to vote..
despite that the vote system is full of .
you were asked to give like 10 tracks, then the most used 10 tracks were put into 2 groups, and then you vote for tehse again, and maybe not even one of your 10 top tracks came into.
then you are asked for voting some track you dont like anyways,
who would do that!?
just make it like this:
when ever you want a trance vote:
let the member write the vote in a text field comming when he logs into the forum. just one vote, and then count over all members.
so everybody can enter his favorite track.
use the moderators to count the votes, if you fear "" votes like "HAHA I OWN YOU" instead of "armin van buuren - shivers" or what ever..
this voting system is bad. just add a simple one! and do not require people to write OMG BLOCK OF TEXT .. :) |

Exactly what I suggested in another thread -- write-in votes. To make it all neat and tidy, there could be a thread set up where each person was allowed to make just one post, that post containing his vote. All other posts could be deleted from that thread. Then the votes could be counted up at the end and posted in a new thread for discussion of the results. |

| Well for one Im not voting as I dont like/know the tracks. No point me voting just for the hell of it as that would skew the poll :) |

| Exactly. Having a write-in vote would mean that people would no longer abstain from voting because they didn't like the options, since they could just write in any track they wanted rather than choosing from a limited set as in the current poll. |

| maybe alot of people who dont like trance anymore stopped posting in the music section or on the forum altogether. or they just realised they hated all the tracks on that list and didnt vote instead of voting for the one that they thought was but not as as the other ones cos they are trance (u know the track ;)). |

we need to try convincing half of the forums members to get another vote system, and revote 2006's track.
just like having am message when you log in, need to enter you favorite trance track 2006, and send it in, votes are being counted up, thats it.
so everybody must vote, and we have a better result than a BT |

| i think it should just be vote for your favourite track by sending in the name and then the one which is mentioned the most wins, or something along those lines. none of this rounds bull anyway |

nautilus posted up the excel sheet which listed the most nominated tracks in order, and it gave a far more accurate reading than how the poll is turning out right now. going by those results the rightful winner should have been arksun - arisen, since it was by far the most popular track of the second half & only just missed out on making the first half as well. as it stands, regardless of how good a track the antikythera mechanism is, it's not a rightful winner plainly because the majority of its support has come from protest votes by the anti-trance crew |

What strikes me though, is that Arisen is only ranked 4th at the moment with a mere 16 votes. |
