Search Wikia - The Google Killer?

http://search.wikia.com/wiki/Search_Wikia

Search Wikia – is a Wikia project and serves as a platform for the development of a new free/open source search engine with user-editable search results.

Search Wikia is the development of a wiki-inspired search engine. Specifically community members who would like to help build people-powered search results and developers to help us build an open-source alternative for web search

Wikiasari is not and will not be the name for the free search engine we're developing. It was the name of a former project (see history and comments).

This project has also nothing to do with the screenshot TechCrunch are running (which belongs to Wikiseek), and this search project has nothing to do with Wikipedia.

-------------

There is lots of buzz on the street about this project. With the success and accuracy of the Wikipedia - Search Wikia could be something that impacts Google's search efforts. Search Wikia will be a for profit venture (Wikipedia is not) and has some pretty big investors on board (including Amazon).

Hardly a Google killer... and what makes the thought of that even funnier is what you see on the right column of every page (Google Ads)

Sounds like a conflict of interests -- a for-profit venture with user-editable search results? Yummy.

These guys took the idea of Google Bombs and decided to base their whole search engine on it? This is almost as bad an idea as the "jump to conclusions" mat.

Interesting and also just waiting for the search hackers to manipulate everything to the www.v1agra.com or www.bigpenisi.com... :nervous:

[edit] who needs spam when your searches are going there for you?

This won't even touch Google. It's dead before it even starts. Nothing can match the great Google.

Can you at least admit Google search used to me much much better? As they index more and more pages the searches come up with more and more crap. I remember back when Google was just getting popular, what I wanted would ALWAYS be the first result. Now it's not uncommon for me to dig to second page before i find what i need.
