Can Guitar Rig be controlled from a Midi controller or do you need the whole (very expensive) gear that you plug an actual guitar into.
I know they just released a software version...whats the difference?
I have a vst by re-fx call Slayer and it works great. Just wondering if you can do the same with the Native Instruments offering that looks much more advanced!!!
Thank you in advance! |

Sounds like you're a little confused here.
Guitar Rig is an effect. It's literally meant to mimic the expensive gear you're talking about, the gear that you plug an actual guitar into. It's everything but the guitar - as the name implies, a virtual guitar rig.
You have to feed it audio of a guitar, which you make with samples, or a different VSTi, or a real guitar.
Can you control the Rig with MIDI... well, yes, I think you can map some of the effect parameters to MIDI CCs, but it isn't going to play any notes, because it's not a synthesizer.
Hope that explains it for ya... |

You dont just have to feed guitar audio through it, it can be used to create some wicked effects on any noise you choose ;)
But yeah, Slayer has a guitar instrument built in, Guitar Rig does not have this :) |

Its made by Refx and available as a standalone vst and/or an add on to fruity loops! Slayer 2 is the current version (I could stand to be correted here as ususal) |

I wouldnt say confused really. I know you need a hardware device that your guitar plugs into then you connect the device via usb or fw I presume and away you go... no?
I read some on NI that you can control it via midi somehow and there is a tutorial on NI somewhere for Registered users. (which I am NOT)
However recently NI released a software version of the program and this is where I get confused~! What do you controll the sound with or is it like you said previously you need to record the guitar via audio track and then implement the effect? |
