I liked the bass-line at the beginning and the hook at 3.50 sounds great but (in my opinion) the vocals kick in too soon and (again this is just me) I would suggest that you avoid bringing them in until the track breaks down to preserve the energy.
Additionally I would say that the mix sounds a bit busy at times especially at the later half of the track when the vocal is competing with your synth line.
I am not in any way a production expert, these are just comments purely from a listeners point of view...
Congrats on your effort, nice work :) |

This is my favorite deathcab song out of all the releases. It really resonates with me; for some reason. I dunno, protective older brother syndrome i guess
Anyway I was really hoping that you wouldn't butcher :( I'm usually skeptical.
But I was relieved to hear your rendition. With a little more polish it would sound awesome.
Mostly, I would say add some more atmospheric sounds, you know, like whooshes and waves and stuff but that's a minor issue. It always adds to a song though. Gives it more intensity, even if it is pseudo-chill like your song is.
I think at the end of your song there's a bit of "mashing" going on since you were working from the DCFC song. I would add a ducking effect to the sample so that when your stuff comes in, the sample gets its volume lowered a bit. Since you've got it pretty well sync'd when your drums hit, they'll be hitting at the same time the sample's drums hit so you won't be losing vocal or piano definition (much).
Also I can tell in some spots (it's kinda annoying since I try not to notice but still do :() the time-stretch stutter on your sample. I mean there's not really a way to remedy this without changing the pitch and for this song it's good to keep the pitch the same. I don't really know how I'd repair ; I would probably start with gated effects or make a blatant left-right-left delay with reverb and volume swell or something. Dunno I'd have to play it by ear. Maybe add a covering-synth to camoflage the stutter
Good choice of song though and nice arrangement. I like how it stops the drums at some points and just goes straight into the sample and back to the root feeling of the song. It's really melancholy and doesn't detract from the original!
8/10

thanks dude :)
and i know exactly what you're talking about with not wanting to hear time stretching and whatnot but i listen to a lot of mashups and as a producer it drives me nuts
unfortunately i wanna go work on some of the things you mentioned but as of about a week ago, fruity loops has been fubar:(
thanks for the feedback though :) |
